Parker visited Riverton to inves tigate tbe new find, which promise* to excel anything io the line of coal in Coos county. I f these men take hold o f it we will expect to see it boom. The tide was running out and instead of head ing up stream so us to he carried across by the current they beaded straight across. The terrible cur rent proved too stroug for Mr. Graham nnd they were enrried almost into the breakers before making tbe sand spit on the north beach. The women iu the boat were screaming und the whole town was in a fever of excitement for a short time. It was a close call, for if the boat had been caught in the breakers doubtless nil of its occu- pauts would have been drowned. Widows not dependent upon their own labor are entitled if the soldier's death was due to service. CHILDREN are entitled (if under 16 years) in almost nil cases where there was no widow, or she has since died or remarried. PARENT» nre entitled if soldier left neither widow nor child, provided soldier died in service, or from effects o f service, and they nre now dependent upon their own labor for support. It makes no difference whether soldier served or died in late war or in regular array or navy. Soldiers of the late war, pensioned under one luw, may npply for higher rates under other laws, without losing any rights. Thousands of soldiers drawing from $2 to $10 per month under theola law are entitled to higher rates under new law, not only on acoonnt of disabilities for which now pen sioned. but also for others, whether due to service or not.
