Levi Gant, one of our staunch farmers who is not generally very rugged, looks quite fresh and well this winter, which is pleasing to ------, ------- his frie« drt Christmas goods all over town at about half the prices usually asked. Peihaps this is the result of the Wilson bill; we now want Bill Wilson or some other smart Alex to introduce a William that cau bring us money to buy Christ mas goods. Oar city dads are the most gen erous souls on earth. They ordei work on our stieets and tax the adjoining property-owners for the job. Bills are presented at the next meeting of tile board and paid out o f the city funds, and the tax is never paid. The county seat question is being discussed aud there haH been sev eral sites selected for the court house. It is confidently expected by some that Myrtle Point will have the couuty seat, and may( ?)get it on the first ballot. Quite a num ber of Marshfield peoole have property in our beautiful city aud of course that will help us to get the seat of justice located here. A mock trial will be held at the Temperance League rooms in the academy building Wednesday even ing of this week. Our two bril- liaut young attorneys, L. A. Roberts aud G. M. Short, will be the legal lights of the occasion, while L. L. Bnrteusbaw, a disciple of Black- stone of much renown, will preside ns judge. Some boys will tie arrested for disturbing beuroosts, and no doubt they will quail under the stern gaze o f the judge and officer, whom we presume will be Z. Taylor Johnson, formerly asso ciated with Judge J. N. Phillips, who now stands at the head o f the California bar. The boys of G company O. N. G. were out on the 8th inst. for their regular inspection and they made a very good appearance. Col. C, T. Blumeurother was present nnd during his iuspectiou one could see at a glance that he was well versed in the manual of arms and the military tactics in general. Over two-thirds of the time of their enlistment is now past and the boys Bre discussing nlready whether or not they will re-enlist Since the late dispatches indicate a possibil ity o f a war with England there is no donbt but that the separate bntallion will be kept up nud it will probably bate an opportunity to shed human gore before their ages will exempt them fiom mili tary duty.
