Postmaster Black is iu receipt o f a letter from an official in N ew Mexico, uskiDg for information re garding a man named Jeff Dale. A man wns fonud dead at some point in New Mexico, but whether it was a case of murder, suicide, or accidental death is not learned. A letter was found in bis pocket ad dressed to “ Jeff Dale, Porter, Marshfield P. O., Coos Co., O gn ." Dale was night watchman at the Porter mill, und left here several months ago. H e was about 35 years of age. Win. Ross, o f Isthmus slough, received a letter lately from bis brother R. Ross, who, in partner ship with W illiam and John Goudie, owus the Puna coffee plantation, which is located abont 30 m ile» from tbe town o f H ilo, H awaii island. Daly, foreman at the North Bend mill, met with an ac cident, Monday morniug, which will probably lay him up for a trace. It seems he went into a loft in tto mill for a piece of an cld circular saw, which he had found use for. Iu attempting to throw the saw from the loft to the ground, it caught in his clothing, taking him with it, aud resulting in his falling ten feet, striking on his head on the track beneath.
