Under this heading the Fort Dodge (Iow a) Messenger, o f April 23d, thus comments upcu the de parture of E. 13. Price, osq., of Lehigh, Iowa, to Coos county, Ore gon, for residence. Wo have al ready mentioned the advent of Mr. and Mrs. Price in our midst, and welcomed them as good and most worthy persons, o f whom we have reason to bo proud, and in proof give the certificate of the Messen ger in noting their departure for “ far away Oregon “ Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Price, of Lehigh, are iu town Saturday aud Sunday, on their way to make a new home in far away Oregon. They have been residents of this county for many years, living at Lehigh. Mr. Price was at one time county supervisor, but natur ally he is not a man to seek public position to make himself conspicu ous. But everybody who knows him appreciates his sterling worth. “ The people o f Lehigh gave a reception to Mr. and Mrs. Price last week, and made them several valuable presents to carry with thorn as permanent tokens o f the respect and affection o f their old friends here. “ Iowa and Webster county lose a loyal and loving 6on when Mr. Price passes over their borders. He has a poetical ability of a high order, and two of his recent poems have born significant testimony to the emotions of heart at this de parture. The following is the poem to Iowa: “ Since yon th ray feet thy ways have trod ; T hy nam e I learned with that o f G od — Iow a . “ Twas whispered with a m other’ s prayer; In her p etition for his care T hou didst receive a worthy shnre— I ow a . “ T hou wert array’d in pinafores W hen first I gauibol’ d on thy shores— Iowa. “ And tho’ a m aid, with m other arras; O ut-stretched to save from dire alarms T hou didst disclose m ost winsom e cliurms— Iowa. “ W ith added years thy beauties «row ; No other love but thine I knew — Iow a. “ T hy early charms waxecTwildly fa ir— T o w om anhood’s p erfection rare— A sheen o f fo ld is in thine hair— Iowa. “ T hy rivors and prairies wide Have been nuy youth and m an h ood 's pride— Iow a. “ T he years with thee in you th -tim e spent T o those since flown have luster lent T hat brightened life with sweet con ten t— Iowa. “ Now thou art crow n a m ighty state, W liat seer will ken thy future fa te — Iow a? “ I f guided by thy beacon light That Jr stico flash«m iu thy sight T hy stops will ever go aright— Iow a. “ I tread thy soil and feel a king; My soul m ounts up on eagle's w ing— Iow a. “ Thy daughters true, sons brown and brave— No soul can breathe thy air a slave T ill all thy children find a grave— Iowa. Before leaving for Salem, John Manning told several parties that he had been offered a revolver and $20, nnd told to skip from the jail. Ho said he was told to pay no at tention to the guard, as his gun was loaded with paper, and also made other statements, which, how ever are not generally credited; though some people believe they have foundation on fact. « Bay« C a b b ie E.
