Yesterday morning our old
friend nnd fellow townsman, Uncle
John Rimmer, took the train for
Myrtle Point, on his accustomed
trip to consult his physician, Dr.
Reader.
The old gentleman was
feeling very poorly, being much
broken down with his complaint,
Bright’s disease, and had a pain in
his side for some time preceding
this trip. He reached his destina
tion, and while setting in the hotel
townrd evening, bolding converse
i with acquaintances and passing
persons, he suddenly gave a gasp
aud sank in his chair. Capt. Len
eve happened to step in: only a
moment before, spoke to Uncle
John, and witnessed this oceuranee.
The^captain at once telephoned to
friends here. His remains will be
brought here and the funeral take
place tomorrow on tbe arfiral -of
the steamers from the upper river,
under the auspices o f the Odd Fel
lows, o f which order he was'an old,
faithful nnd’ respected member.
W e bave not much data in Uncle
John Rimmer’s life. H e has been
a resident iu Coos county for many
years, as far bRck as the early ’70s,
a quiet, penceable and lovable citi
zen and neighbor. He was from
Tennessee, and leaves two or three
brothers in different states, a
nephew, Geo. E. Rimmer, to whom
he was much uttached, living at
Jensen,Sebastian county, Arkansas,
and probably two or three other
relatives iu the Indinn territory,
not fur from Fort Smith.
We do
not know his age, exactly, but it
; was probably 70.
We shall all miss Uncle John
[Rimmer. Peace to his ashes.
