It possesses such a degree o f pliancy that it may be beet backward and for ward like leather nnd be subjected to very considerable stensiD strain with impunity; it is also almost as ti-ihilient as glass aud of a ph asing amber color, varying in shade from a very light golden to a pale brown. The basis o f the maternal is a web of fine iron wire with warp and w»*ft threads about one-twelfth inch apart, Ibis lieing enclosed like a fiy in amber in a sheet of trans lucent varnish o f which the base in linseed oil. There is no resin or guuf in the varnish, and once having become dry it is capable cf standing heat aud damp without undeigoing any change, neither hardening nor b coming sticky. Briefly, the manufacture is-accom plished by dipping the sheets edge wise into deep tanks t f varnish and then allowing the coating which they thus receive to dry in a warm atmosph» re. I t requires somewhat more than a dozen o f these dips to bring the sheets to the required degree o f thickness, and when this lias been accom plished the material is stored for sevefal weeks to thoroughly Bea son.— r-icieuce.
