he did not make land unless ho was
in some way injured by the fall of
the lx>at when capsized.
H e was
out about northwest o f the end o f
the breakwater, and it was the last
breaker on the bar that he had to
pass that upset his boat.
Another theory is he got fouled
in his net, aud that the body is yet
probably fast to it. I f this is true,
the body w ill likely be recovered
to-day, as an attempt will bo made
to hn ■! up Hie net, as it is known
tob»' there yet, by one of the bar

remaining there in tho surf where
the accident happened.
C apt
Brown and Capt. Snyder went out
Sunday afternoon and did as well
as two men possibly could in a
small boat, and that, too, at the
peril o f their lives for w hich they
deserve great credit, and good will
o f all the many friends o f deceased,
to recover the body, but without
success.
Mr. Simpson was an experienced
fisherman having followed it for
years on Eel river.
H e did not
know fear in any shape or form,
and his family predicted years ago
that he would drown by being too
venturesome, when lie used to ven
ture over Eel river bar when no
one else would think o f it.
Mr. Simpson came from Hum-
lioldt county. California, nearly
three years ago, aud he was a fa
vorite with every one there, as well
ns those w ith whom he had became
acquainted here. His parents re
side near Dora, in this county. H e
