The Sun Francisco Examiner discussing the stamp act and the Cohen bill says: It ought to be plain to every rational person that the only pro tection white labor can have against Chinese encroachments in indus trial occupations is in a stamp act. All manufactured goods should show by a proper devioe, authoriz ed by the laws of the state, whether they are tho product of white or coolie industry. In no other way can the consumers of goods know which class of the community they are patroniziug. To exempt cer tain specified manufactures from the operations of such a law is simply to invite the Chinese to en ter that industry. * * * * Such a law as this bill contemplates is an indispensable necessity. It is the hinge upon which turns the fight against the products of Chinese industry. It is the declaration of industrial independence for the N1 intention to make final proof in support of his claim, and that said proof will bo made before the Register or Reoeiver of the U. S.
