N uf S«‘d. our stock had died of disease, we Dora, Oreg. Jan. 4. might justly complain. As it is, unless we are very blind iu the matter, we are particularly fortu nate. From the weather report on the first page o f to-day’s H ekali », it will be seen that from Jau. 1, 1880, to Jan. 1, 1887 we had but two snows, aud they melted away as fast as they fell. This will be a sur prise to rnauy who live at a dis- stance, and who do uot know the mildness ot our climate. The dis tance between this place and the Bandon station is so small that it seems hardly possible that there could be auy difference: however, there has been some this winter, f«»r while the report records 19 frosts in O ct, Nov. and D >c., we had only seven that were percep tible on tlie lowest lands, aud but three in Coquille City. So far, the present winter there has been no snow at ail, and possibly may uot be; we have had winters here entirely free from snow. From a private letter from Hon. B. Hermann we learn that he has secured a rocommendation from the House Committee for an ap propriation of #12,000 for the im provement o f tlie month of the Co quille, and $25,000 for Coos bay. This would make a total of #32.000 for the Coquille, and #58,000 for Cooe bay for the two years, and most all of which will be available next season. Mr. H. is sauguine o f securing #5000 for pulling snags and dredging the upper river, pro vided the engineers report favor ably. This, he thinks will require hard work, since he has asked so much for this county. This is a pretty good showing for our rep- rontutive, is it not? Bunch on the Sabbath question, run through all tlie week from Monday night to Sunday night The discussion was an able and fair one. Rev. Win. Pullen and J. A. Simon acting as moderators. The three first nights were devoted to the proposition: “ The Sabbath o f the Fourth Com mandment is the Christian Sab bath” ; J. C. Bunch affirming and J. P. Easter denying. The last three nights were devoted to the proposition : “ The first day o f the week (or Sunday) was set apart by divine or apostolic example or ap pointment to be observed by Chris tians as a day o f worship,” J. P. Easter affirming and J. C. Bunch denying. The crowd in attendance was all the church could accommodate, and the best feeling prevailed. There being no judges, the decis ion rests with the people.
