He felt something hanging to his pants on the back part of his leg, and turning to see what it was, he saw the snake fall to the ground, and, gathering a club, killed it. He suffered nothing from the bite, nnd after a few days it gave him no uneasiness; but a f»*w dnys ago happening to touch the part bitten with his hand on which he had a scratch, some of the poison got into the sore and his hand commenced swelling and is now, according to our informant, in a very bad shape. Todd who also 1ms a fine sing ing class of 25 pupils. The first term of siugiug school closed two weeks ago, and the present com menced last Sunday.. The new schoolliou.se under tho management of Alessrs. Jas. Bright, Isaac Chandlers and AVin. Brady is progressing hugely, and in two weeks we hope to be able to have our school moved into the new building. It is a splendid structure, 24x32 feet; two stories high. Haying is in full blast. Al though some are done, yet, some are just commencing. Grain looks well, but is late. Things have settled down since the Fourth in the same even ways which usually characterize this community. New wagons and harvesting machinery are being introduced to an extent hitherto unknown, and the merry song of the whetstone on the scythe which followed the “ Indian warcry, is fast dying away in the west.” A number of parties from here attended the celebration at Rose- burg, and express themselves well pleased with the whole affair, especially the Cole Circus.
