A gentleman who was in Washington at the time, informs us why it was that 'Grant failed to call on the President, as he agreed, to let him know his de cision in regard to tho War Office at the time he surrendered it to Stanton. The Radical leaders, ascertained his agreement with the President, and knowing Grant’s weakness, or rather the'strong point in his character, got him drunk/an$ in this condition ex torted from him a promise to betray hie chief and play into the hands of the Bump conspirators. On Sunday night revious to the day on which he had is appointment with the President, he was literally cai tied home drunk, help less and limp. When thecarriage that conveyed bias to the front of his resi dence reached the gas-lighted sidewalk, the church situated just beyond, gave out ita congregation ; and thus, in plain view of hundreds of ehurch going Christians, this ' Btterly helpless aod drunken man was carried across the sidewalk and in to his house. The next, morning he S breath, coughs, consumption, night sweats, raouotuania, i nd frequent insanity. If relief be not obtained, should apply immediately, either in person or by letter, end have a cure effected by this new and scientific mode of treating this complaint,, which never fails of effecting a quick and radical cure. Dr. G. will give $100 to any person who will prove satisfactorily to him that he was cured by eith er of the Sau Francisco quacks. Dr. Gibbon is responsible, and will give each patient a written instrument biudiug himself to effect a radical and peimanect cure or make no charge. Persons at a distance may be cured at home by addressing a letter to iir.
