If you arc suffering or have suffered, from in
voluntary discharges, what effect does it produce
upon your general health? Do you feel weak,
debilitated, easily tired? DoeB a little extra exer
tion produce palpitation of the heart ? Does your
liver, or urinary organs, or your kidneys frequen
tly get out of order? Is your urine sometimes
thick, milky or llocky or is it ropy on settling?
Or docs a thick scum rise to tho top? Or is a sed
iment at the bottom after it has stood awhile?
Do you have spells of short breathing or •dyspep
sia? Arc your bowels constipated ? Do you have
spells of fainting, or rushes of blood to the head?
Is your memory impaired? Is your mind con
stantly dwelling on this subject? Do you feel
dull, listless, moping, tired of company, of life?
Do you wish to be left alone, to get away frojn
everybody? Does any little thing make you start
or jump? Is your sleep broken or restless? Is
the lustre of your eye as brilliant ? The bloom on
your cheek as bright? Do you enjoy yourself in
society as well ? Do you pursue your business
with the same energy ? Do you feel as much con
fidence in yourself? Are your spirits dull and
flagging, given to fits of melancholy ? If so do
not lay it to your liver or dyspepsia. Have you
restless nights? Your back weak, your knees
weak, and have but little appetite, and you attri
bute this to dyspepsia, or liver complaint?

SUBSTITUTE,
This Powder is invaluable to the Housekeeper,
Hotel and Restaurant Proprietors, Miners and
owners of Steam-hips and sea-going vessels, ns it
does away with the necessity of providing Eggs
for Puddings. Cakes, Fancy Breads, etc., as the
contents of each tin is equal in every respect (for
the abov» purpose) to four dozen of Eggs.
It dispenses entirely with the use of Soda, Sal-
eratus and Cream of Tartar, (t/.ree ingredients
that are very apt to disagree with delicate stom
achs), and is a friend to the dyspeptic, as it makes
the food into which it is introduced, light and
wholesome. It is entirely free from all mineral
alk alii -'. s , and is recommended by the Faculty to
those suffering from sour stomachs and impaired
I digestion, or irregularity of the biliary secretions.
The above article is put up in sealed cans, and
warranted to keep in all climates.

The meaner the attack, the more inscrutable
it comes to benefit. William Cobett once
said : “Every mean enemy brings me a new

scribers.”

You never hear such men complain of being

W omanly M odesty .—Man loves the mys
terious. A cloudless sky, the full-blown rose,
leaves him unmoved, but the violet which
hides its blushing beauties behind the bush,
and the moon when she emerges from behind
a cloud, are to him sources of inspiration an 1
pleasure. Modesty is to merit what shade is
to figure in painting—it gives it boldness and
prominence. Nothing adds more to female
beauty than modesty ; it sheds aroun I tho
countenance a halo of light which is borrowed
from virtue. Botanists havo given the rosy
hue which tinges the cup of tho white rose
the name of “maiden blush.” Thia pure
and delicate hue is the only paint Christian
virgins should use ; it is the richest orna
ment. A woman without modesty is like a
faded flower diffusing an unwholesome odor,
which the prudent garuerer will throw from
him. Her destiny is melancholy, for it ter
minates in shame aud repentance. Beauty
passes like the albo, which blooms and dies in
a few hoars ; but modesty gives the female
ch arm 8 which supply the pfiice of the transi
tory freshness of youth.
