Mr. Dowell in “going after water” for domestic and irrigating purposes, extended his ditch acd water pipe to an old well, un der’the City Drug Store, the use of which was long since abandoned. The well was tapped and found to be half filled with slush ; in removing which the workmen unearthed various objects of interest: Broken vessel*, iron implements, fu<picious looking bottles Ac., and finally the skull and bones of a hu man being. From the low, receding fore head, it was decided to be the skeleton of a Flathead or Rogue river Indian. The bone* bad never been hinged together, and old pants and boots were found with them. It may have been an Indian, it may have been a sub ject of the dissecting room, or—who knows ! The Medicine shop over the well is an old institution, and has passed through the hands of many different doctors and druggists ; and unless some of the early proprietors return and enlighten us as to how the bones ot the unfortunate person came to be in the well, the matter must forever remain a mystery.
