Mf. L. J. Hull, of this place, has r cherry tree in bis orchard that we ven ture to say cannot be surpassed, if equalled un this Coast, for quality and quantity of fruit. Visitors from California and other places say liiut the cherries are the largest and beat they hfive seen on the Coast ; and it ia estimated tHt there are from 700 to 1,000 lbs. upon the tree. A Y oung H unter .—On Wednesday morn in» last, as a sheep herder in the employ of John Wells, of Ashland, was tending his sheep in Dead Indian Valley, hie dog treed a yearling black bear. Master Frank Slade, a nephew of Mr. Wells, aged eleven years, took his uncle’s rifle • and shot Bruin.dead at the first fire. The youngster may live to wear the honors now accorded to Kit Carson. ----- —-r * LOCAL INTELLIGENCE. Everything is provided for his comfort and Dr. Ream, of Yreku, is his surgical adviser. We hope to see him speedly restored to health. T he F ourth .—Next Monday week will be tbe 94th anniversary of American indepen dence. Preparations have been made fin celebrating the day, at this place, on a grand scale. One cf Southern Oregon’s most elo quent speakers—Lafayette L me,—will de liver the oration. Among other attractions will be the appearance of the ‘’FooHkillers,” a procession of men, masked and dressed in all manner of costumes.
