Pursuant to call of the Democratic Central Com­
mittee of Jackson county, the voters of Jackson*
ville Precinct met at the Court House, on Saturday,
April 30th, for the purpose qt electing delegates to
attend the Democratic County Convention.
On motion of Mr. Klippel Win. Fiddler was
chosen Chairman of the meeting ; and on motion
of Mr. Neil N. D. Short was chosen Secretary.
On motion messrs. Berry and Shipley were ap­
pointed tellers of the election.
After a few remarks by the Chairman, appro­
priate to the occasion, the meeting proceeded to
business.
Nominations were then declared to be in order,
and the following names were placed before the
meeting:
Jas. D. Fay ; Wm. Fiddler- Wm. Cummings ;
A- Davidson ; T. Brady ; P. Fehely ; M. Bren-
tano ; Viet Shuts ; J. W. Manning ; A. Ullman ;

J. Ish ; J. Lacy and J. T. Glenn.
On motion of Mr. Klippel it was decided that
the candidates be elected by ballot.
Mr. Griffin moved that a majority of the votes
cast should elect.
Mr. Fay moved to amend by substituting “plu­
rality” for majority, which was carried.
On motion a recess of one hour was declared, to
allow voters to deposit their ballots ; at the end ot
which time the meeting was called to order, the vote

received a plurality of the votes cast, were declare t

at the June election. At the Presidential election
Grant only lacked 161 votes of getting the electo­
ral vote of Oregon. Thero are upward^ of two
hundred colored voters in Oregon. Nine-tenths of
this class vote the Republican ticket throughout
the United States.
