*- *■ What Argo’s Crew Say United States Inspectors Edwards and Fuller will take testimony con cerning the wreck of the steamship Argo at 9 o'clock this morning. Captain Levi Snyder will lie called upon to give his official report and First Officer Johnson, Chief En gineer Snyder, First Assistant Thomas Russell Purser William A Simpson and members of the crew will be examined. Members of the crew of the ill fated steamship, lpst on Tillamook Bay bar Friday night, have pre pared the following expression of gratitude of the heroic conduct o Captain Snyder: We, the undersigned members of the steamship Argo, wish to give expression to the splendid seaman ship of Captain Snyder, whose cool ness in the trying hours of ship wreck, excellent judgment in his every action while being swept across the bar with disabled ehgine, thought for passengers and crew, made our rescue possible. With a rapid falling barometer, a southwest gale, increasing in velocit y his making for the lightship as offer I ing the best chance for safety, justi fied our confidence in his ability to get us out of a serious situation. Too much cannot be said in praise of Mate Nelson and crew of tlx lightship, who gave up their berths their clothes, and did everything for our comfort. Signed, Thos. Russell, John Woldhouse, Albert Meskelberg, Emil Solmonsen, H. Hollis, C. H. Graves, C. Frednel son, N. Pederson and William A. Simpson. Purser Simpson is loud in his praise of Captain Snyder. 1 le said "I do not know what, more 1 cai say of the way things went in the shipwreck, but if I have ever to go through another 1 hope 1 ma\ have Captain Snyder commanding the ship. 1 have heard men talk of what they would do in emergencies, have heard comment alter wrecks have happened on what might have been done, but Captain Snyder seemed to have thought of every thing beforehand and did all that man could do to save the ship, the passengers and the crew. Astoria looked better to me than ever before when we reached there from the lightship, and I am mighty thiiikfu' we are all safely on shore again. Oregonian. I ound <’ea ’ in Ins -cd.
