Attempt on Schoolhouse Again is the fact made manifest ti>*t the people < f Bandon are act ors, not talkers. Again is it proven that her policy of expansion, long Hgu proclaimed, was sincere am made with the object of building sgch a city at the Coquille's mouth as resources anil capital would per mil Is there any longer doubt ih.H the excellent resources of Southeni Coos county are coming to be util wad, and WHEkE they should be, thiough the aide awake and earnest apiri* of the business men hereabout? The R ecorder congratulates the people of Bandon and vicinity upon the success of their efforts to secure a pajjer and P'dp mill, <*« industry w promising here, arvn one that is ctatain Io bring fame and pecuniart return. it ntarks one nrore and very important step in the rapid and genuine growth of. Bandon ai»<’ S«*tthern Coos county.' Now give us a little better rivei and liar—not a forty-toot bar exact !♦; twenty feet minimum depth wottM make us leap with ecstaay •nd j<»y! There is a dastard in this com munity' who should be hunted down anil exterminated as speedily as pos sible. For a second time an attempt was made last evening to burn the sflioolhouse, the villain having cut a hole in the lower floor near the soft coal box, saturated the soft edges with coal oil and then applied a match« . Only for the timely arrival of patrons of the writing school was the blaze discovered and extinguish ed before damage could be done. ----- ooo---- Saloon License« Raieed At the last meeting of the city council Tuesday evening it was or- dained that saloons henceforth payù yearly tax oi $8oo instead of $600 as heretofore. ----- <XXJ------ Card of Thank* Ed Haaland, a laborer well known about town, met with a distressing accident Friday afternoon. He was helping to unload t/lephone poles on the wharf near the Com mercial company's warehouse when the Jiile rolled down upon him, break ing both his legs in a shocking man ner. The unfortunate wan was given medical aid as quickly as pos sible and on the day following was sent to the county hospital al Co quille. He is a young man of strong physique and may survive his injur ies without the loss pf eitlu-r limb, but it will be a lung time before he can again work. He belongs to the local 'longshoremen's union. Constable Ruhe Gardner bail an- exciting but successful chase last week iu his pursuit of Wyatt, the colored restaurant keeper, who left so hastily without kissing iniportun ate creditors goodbye. Rube struck the scent iu the direction of Curry county, and might have nabbed his man sooner but for it being the dark of the moon. Wyatt was captured beyond Port Orford. He was brought back to Bandon and judgment ren dered against him for the amount claimed by plaintiff and all costs. Upon payment of all he had. seme >3“, he was allowed to go his way rejoicing. The new- tug which is to be built for replacing the Triumph in seryice °n Gir lower Coquille and bar will be built at either the Price or Heuck endorfi shipyards. . Local business men are subscribing liberally for stock in the boat, but whatever is not locally taken will be subscribed for by the Doe Estate, owners of the Triumph. So it is apparent that a new and up-to date tug boat suited to this bar is assured. The Doe Es tate, of which J. L. Krixienberg is manager, will sell the Triumph to San Francisco parties, it is said.
