College began enrolling students
Wednesday for the Fall term.
Over 140 were enrolled against a
little over half that number the first
day last year. An opening service
was held Wednesday evening at the
Baptist Church.
Mayor W. T.
Macy made the address of welcome
to the students and in closing his
remarks said the homes of McMinn­
ville would be open to them and for
them to consider that’ they had an
uncle in every house in McMinnville.
The principal address of the evening
was by Rev. John M. Linden, of
Oregon City. McKee Bros, and
Misses Pengra and Seiters furnished
music for the evening.
Salem, Or.—The summary of
deaths and injuries from railroad
wrecks, derailments, etc., as report­
ed to the Railroad Commission for
August, shows that there was a total
of three killed and six injured.
Of
the killed two are listed as employes
and one is placed under the head of
“other persons,” and of the injured,
two were passengers, one an employe
and three “other persons.

by the City Marshal, Sheriff Jackson
left for Salem, where he will also
consult legal authority in carrying
out his orders. The right of cigar
dealers and others to operate the
machine is based upon a clause in
the city charter made by the Legis­
lature in 1905, to license and regu­
late slot machines. This charter, it
is asserted, nullffies the state law
passed previously. The outcome is
anxiously awaited by both sides.
