The world’s record for a long wind ed base ball game was brokeu this week when two Boston School teams played a 28 inning game, resulting in a score of 3 to 4 Elaborate preparations are being made in Portland fur the coming Rose carnival and Fiesta. Oue of the attractions will be a portion of the Pacific squadron, including the flag- euipCharleston, which has been de tailed hy the Navy department to proceed to Portland to remain from June 19 to July 4 th inclusive. The presence of the squadron was obtain- thruiigh the efforts of Senator Bourne, ami through the courtesy of the President. Another feature of the Fiesta will be s parade of 2000 children. What Portland wills, she performs, and we have not the slight est doubt but that the carnival will be a great success, aud add new laurels to her fame as a hostees. Korea and Sitieria Mr. Kydd believes that tie can lay such oak lumber down iu British Columbia at one third of the prevail lug price and etill make money. He declares that American capitalists have already interested themselves in the matter, ami are today practically supplying from that source all the telegraph and electric light poles now ueed in Mexico. •ith no active support there.
