Bandon is feeling clever over the
report that tbe Cody Lumber Com
pany is to build a saw mill there with
a capacity of 75.000 feet daily. It is
to be boped that Bandon will draw
all that and more, while Myrtle Point
is becoming the educational center of

Tbe people of Myrtle Point were
mildly excited last Friday by tbe ap
pearance bere of a crew of tbiriy-tive
surveyors, with tbeir instruments anil
other equipage, cooking wagons,
tents aud other paraphernalia fol

making quite a procession. Of the
thirty-five only two knew the real
meaning of their visit to this section,

quish. It was recognized, however,
that tbe building of a coast line and
interior connections by tbe Southern
Pacific wonld change conditions ma
terially and that this company could
handle the properties to much better
advantage by having both rail and
water transportation facilities for de
livering the coal to interior and coast
markets.
Construction of tbe Coos Bay line
of the Southern Pacific will be of vast
benefit to tbe people aud business in
terests of Cooe and Curry counties,
and it is believed will lead to rapid
development of that isolated portion
of Oregon. These counties are rich
in timber, coal, dairying and agricul
tural resources, have a rich soil aod a
splendid climate, together with tbe
beginning of one of tbe best harbors
on tbe Pacific coast. Tbe people of
Cooe Bay country are enthusiastic
over tbe prospect for immediate open
ing of their section of tbe state to
direct rail communication with Port
