Stanley, of Coquille City for tbe plaletiff. A controversy over tbe payment of tbe annual salary was the cause of actiou and at this aeaemn tbe case »«« decided in favor of tbe platutiff. K. L. Bedillion, manager of tbe Baudon Woolen Mills was s business caller here last Wednesday. K W Bullard of Bullards. N A. Pederson and Mrs. B W. Fahy, of this place, and J. A. Morrison, of Parkersburg, were paseeu- gers oo tbe Wemdeeska to Coquille City Friday, where they were summoned to ap pesr on tbe cannery case. Mrs. Kendall of New Aberdeen was a Myrtle PoiDt visitor last week. F. 8. Dow, commission merebnat from Marshfield, was doing business with the Prosper Mill Co., last week. W. Pedlar of New Aberdeen, departed tbe 19th for bis three months sojourn in tbe East. Mrs. W H. Thomae went to Riverton Sunday to visit her daughter Mra. Geo. Steward, who has been quite ill for the past week, at that place. Mrs. EdgelPe mother. Mrs. Correll, a sis ter Mrs. McKee, and niece Mrs. Truex, ar rived here last Wednesday from Wisconsin having come from Portland on tbe Alliance They were preceded by their husband« and all will locate here. Mias Host ess of Bandon, was op visiting friends at this place Sunday. Mrs. Krall, of Flanagan A Bennet's raneb is visiting at tbe Bay. Mr. Harrington logger front Myrtle Point, was down settling logging affairs with the Prosper Miil Co., last Friday. A. Wilson went to Crane's camp last week to visit his eon Manuel who is woikiug there J R. Magee, has contracted to hanl some logs for Burgess Bro«., above Parkersburg, and also for tbe Prosper Mill Co., near Riv erton. He has charge of Wm. Howell's log ging engine and has moved it from this place, intending to use it for hauling the logs. Inez Jenkins has been at Aberdeen, fol tbe last week, serving as assistant in the boarding bouse. Mrs. C. D. Felter of Bandon, visited ber parents at Aberdeen, the first of tbe week. Mr. and Mrs. Whorl, of North Bend are visiting the latter's slater Mrs. Edw Fahy Jr. and family at Fahyville. A. Persnbaker and wife and Mrs Car others and daughter. Miss Welcome, wen visitors at Coquille City last Friday. Mrs J. Conrad, of thia pisce Ims pur- oha-ed a residence and two lots in Bandon near the shingle mill. She expects to move to Bandon in the near fnture. Chas McCue has disposed of bis interest in the old home plaoe opposite Randolph His share comprised about 40 acres which was sold to W. Parker, of Parkersburg for $2300. It is rumored the site was purchssed for a ssw-m’ll location, Mrs. Prewett and Miss Colvin, were down from Beer Creek shopping last Saturday. Mrs. Wm. Howell's ranch opposite Ran dolph, is about to change ownership. She has a buyer and expects to dispose of tbe property. The Coming Summer ResOrt of the Oregon Coast I Bandon is growing faster than any town in Oregon. Its advancement is real, not on paper Manufacturing plants all running and several more big industries coming. Shipped more lumber since Jan. 1st than any port in Oregon except the Columbia. The Coquille valley is the garden spot of the Coast country and we have the timber and coal industries J Carlson, ebip-carpenter made Marsh field a visit last week. J R. Magee while here last week, related a coal prospect he found on the place known as tbe Stewart place, where he lives, above Riverton. He being a good judge of such productions, stated that be bad found an opening which revealed one of the 4nest veins of coal, and superior to anv he bad *«eu in tbe county. Still we gather en eouraging news from our coal fields. J. McCormac. the well known engineer, of Riverton was doing some work here last I week M and Mrs. J. Flam were visitors here last Sunday. Sand Thrift came down from Ban doo Monday and is now visiting old home friend«. Since that time oo in telligence has been received. Tbe doctor has many friends in this vicin ity who are in sincere sympathy with bis unfortunate condition Mr and Mrs. Dart, of Port Orford, accompanied by their son, passed through town last Monday on their way to Portland where they iutend to reside in the future. Mrs. Dart is an invalid SDd goes to Portland to be near her daughter who lives there. Mrs. E. Jensen of Pert Orford was io towo Monday, calling on friends. Tbe funeral of tbe late Chris. Ad- olphsen was held at tbe cemetery last Monday, and attended by a large concourse of people. Tbe services were conducted by Rev. Mr. Roach of Bandon. Dr. Tatom has been at the Pioneei hotel for several days doing dental work. His wife accompanies him on this trip. Rev. Roach held services morning aud evening at tbe church last Sun day. The Misses Gretchen Sherwood and Emly Harlocker of Coquille came down from Bandon last Tues day evening with Ransom Rackleff. They iutend making a vacation visit with young friends here. The mail service between here and Myrtle Point has improved as tbe roads are better, aud tbe mail is no longer carried on horse back. Randolph. Mrs. G. Burns who was reported very ill last week was removed to tbe Wetmore hospital Saturday. There is little hopes for her recovery. Pressie Swindall visited friends io Randolph Tuesday. Mrs. I. C. Fredericks and Mrs. Chas. Hayter were shopping in Co quille Thursday. Quite a number from this place took u> tbe show at Bandon Monday and Tuesday nights. Mrs. H Kyle. Mrs. Wtu. Bates and Mrs. Wilbur Hayter were Coquille visitors Saturday. Mr. and Mrs. H. N. Russell visited friends in Bandon Tuesday. Mr. Russell returned by (be afternooD boat, while Mrs. Russell remaiued to take in the show at that place Miss Ivy Langwortby visited Miss Effie Collier Tuesday. Mrs. A. Holtin visited Coquille Wednesday. Harvey Dunham who was injured by running a piece of steel in bis limb last week was able to reiuru to his work at Andersoua camp Tuesday. He was accompanied by Ned Lan rence who is also employed at that camp. Mr. J. Moore was a Baudou visitor Tuesday Mrs. Wilbur Hayter had tbe mis fortune to run s sewing osschitru needle through her huger twice. Tbe Deedle was broken in two pieces which were takeD out separately. Mrs. Persbbaker and daughter Ruby visited I heir old home at this place Sunday. Quite a number of young people from this place sre preparing to start for Corry Co , Sunday on a camping expedition and will remaiD until after tbe fourth. F zggy and P a st . E. He de " parted for bis home Sunday and was ac companied by A Persbbaker, who goes on a business trip. It is slid that the white fir butt logs are known to sink and move with the tide under wHter. It has been intimated that a camp on the river has been logging this timber and such is known of tbe disappearance of tbe logs, and it is presumed that if inveeti gation be made, this may perhaps prove tbe cause of dies» ere to tbe vessels, and if com plaint be made, free tbe river from such ob structions which are a menaoe to naviga tion and avoid further trouble. -----ooo---- J. 8.
