e Gasoline Schooner Wrecked at Eureka. Tbe gasoline schooner Corinthian, i$ilb a crew of nine wen. while at tempting to go to sea in a heavy gale grounded on the beaob north of Hutu- Soldi bar. Two of tbe crew were Aowned and two men were injured labile assisting in tbe rescue. With tbe breakers were goiug over tbe wrecked vessel, the work of res ume was most hazardous. Tbe life eaviog crew worked all night, and at four io the morning the last man, Captain Atwater was tuken ashore, lifter having clung to the rigging all digbt with tbe breakers pouring over him. Hansen, of Marshfield. Gasoline launches engaged in pas senger carrying trade, of 15 tons gross register or less, will have to bo operated under Government regula lions in tbe near future, very much in tbe same manner as the larger craft. Good man at this plaoe This is his first visit to Prosper for nearly taro years, having just recently returned from Han Francisco. All the News of a Week's Happsaings Told in a Brief Manner. Mr. Hicking, mausger of the Prosper Mill Co., receive^ late communications from Soddeu A Christenson, of Han Francisco, but is given no information regarding tbe shipping conditions or strike at that place. Due to the increasing demand for lumber, they have ordered all merchantable lumber, odds and ends, to be shipped. Mrs. DeveMux, of Bear Creek, accom pan led bv two Histera of Mercy from tbe North Beud hospital were here Tuesday to secure contributors for tbe institution at that place. Clarke A Co., wholesale druggists of Port land, was taking orders at thia place last week. Autelope, was at this place Friday, prepar ing wood for his boat. Miss Bessie Martiu visited friends at Bandon a few days last week. Slesdaities Heuckendorff and Peteraou aud Olga Peteison were BHudou shoppers from this place last Thursday. Mr Polster of Empire City, having the agency for an Eastern notion house, was soliciting orders at this place last week. Mrs. F. 8. Carman. of New Aberdeen, was a passenger to Marshiield Wednesday morning. She spent several days visiting friends at that place, W. Prager, a Portland traveling man was a business caller at this place last week. J. Hollenbeck, logger from the North Fork, was among the arrivals at Prosper last week. Last Saturday morning Win. Kicking was somewhat perplexed at the disappearance of bis gasoline lauucb, which bad parted its moorings, and made U h escape sometime during the night. Though for several hours no trace of Its whereabouts could be found, he fortunately discovered that the incoming tide had carried it up the river near Ran dolph. where it was found stranded on the sand flat. Fd. Kenville, who has been employed in Howell's oamp for the past few weekH, is now holding a position in tbu mill at this plaoe. Miss Nellie Haydon, of Marshfield, was the gu< st of Mrs. J. Hicking tbe latter part of last week. W. A. Neal, one of Myrtle Point's prosper ous logging men, was a business visitor here tbe first of the week. We are pleased to note that our old esteemed friend, J. K. Scott makes us a brief call occasionally. J. Moore was a Bandon visitor from lian- dolph, last Saturday. J. Donaldson, clerk in the Prosper store, has been on the sick list for several days. He went to Bandon Monday and is being treated for neuralgia—"He has it in tba neck.” F. J. Fahy, cashier in the Bandon Bank, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. 8. W. Fahy, of this place. Wm. Howell, lias closed his camp inde finitely. He is negotiating tbe* disposal of bis logging interests here, and is contem plating a trip to Central America, where lie has been offered a good position, logging mahogany, and a salary of $:!50 per month. Mr. and Mrs, J. Walstrom, of Bandon, came up on a pleasure trip last Sunday. Parkersburg. Mrs. Thus. Deverattx, accompanied by two bisters of mercy (who are so liciting aid for tbe hospital al North Beud) visited onr town Tuesday. Mr*. Thurman aud daughter, M ibb Kate are visiting Mrs. Thurman's daughter, Mrs. Piper. Miss Kate visited Mrs. Randleman Bunday. The sunlight bad a peculiarly brilliant hue as the Dispatch neared tbe Ran dlemau landing. White roses have occupied conspicuous places lately. Come boys lie gallant and bring ou tbe short-order meal tickets promptly. Mrs. Rose and Mrs. Jergurson drove to Bandou last week and report the roads to be almost impassable. Mr. and Mra. H. Dibble visited Mrs. Dibble's cousin Mrs. Chas. Randle man last week. The launch Waupooia took a run to Bandou Monday evening with Parker captain and Carlson cook. Miss Ellen Devereux is expected home from Salem next wt»ek, where she has been attending school for tbe past year. Miss Mintie Doak of Randolph, visited her sister, Mrs. Drew of this place Suuday. Mr. and Mrs. Dibble of San Fran cisco were guests of Mrs. J, T. Kron euberg last week. Mrs. Dibble was formerly Miss Georgia Lewis of this place. Her old friends were glad lo welcome her back. Miss Mamie Rose visited Riverton Sunday. Miss Robah Lewis was tbe guest of Mrs. Backensto, of tbe Myrtles last Sunday. Mr. Kroneuberg starts for Portland Wednesday, to be present at tbe Com mencement exercises at Hill's Mil itary Academy, where his son Harry has been a student for tbe past year. Miss Theresa Manciel of Bandon is a guest at the Rookery. Last Sunday Capt. Jack of tbe Waupooia took Mr. and Mrs Kronen berg aud Mrs. Haines, to Walstrom's where an enjoyable afternoon was passed. Fetter, editor of the Recorder, spent Sunday in Prosper, the guest of Mr and Mrs. A. Perslibaker and family, Ray VanAnken of Aberdeen, and G. Cox of Randolph are numbered among the un fortunates this week—tbe former with a bruised knee and the latter a crushed foot, both having sustained ibeir injuries by fall ing lumber. E. M. Randleman is endeavoring to pur chase the property on Bear creek formerly owned by J. Moore It contains a body of timber and good cattle range. Glen Cox of Randolph informs ns that the saw mill back of that place has ceasid oper ation until tbe stormy weather has abated so as to have dry roads to enable them to haul the lumber to tbe river.
