lead for sheriff, and the indication
points to his election. All Repub
lican candidates iu tbe county except
Stevens, for sheriff, are elected by a
big majority, Tbe Republican legis
lative ticket won by a vote of three to
one.
Cbamberlaiu is re elected by a vote
of from 2000 to 5000, says Chairman
Sweek, of the Democratic Committee.
Tbe vote is far heavier than ex
pected, exceeding tbe estimates.
Many counties conceded to Witby-
combe have beeu carried by Chamber-
lain. Gearin ran far ahead of hw
ticket, but the popular indorsement
has gone to Jonathan Bourne. The
Republicans have elected both con
gressional candidates, Ellis by a large
majority in the Second district, and
Hawley by a greatly reduced party
vote in tbe First, The entire Itepub-
lican state ticket witb the exception
of Withy com be has beeu elected by
large majorities. In some precincts,
Benson, for secretary of state, got two
votes to Withycombe's one.
Later returns show an increased
majority for Chamberlain. Word for
sheriff is prodably elected. Tbe
equal suffrage amendment and lhe
local option amendment are defeated.
Senator Gearin, Democrat, is running
far ahead of his ticket, as is Galloway,
Democrat, in the First congressional
district, but both are defeated.

Happenings Told in a
Brief Manner.
The sobs. Kuby aud Lizzie Prieu arrived
al the Prosper mill last week. Some alight
repairing on the latter was necessary before
loading her cargo.
A number of Aberdeen aud Prosper peo
ple were (.resent at lhe memorial services
held at Baudou on Decoration Day.
Mrs. F. 8, Carman visited her daughter,
Mrs. C. Fuller, at Bandon last Wednesday.
Herman Hongel), who for the past few
months an employe iu the shipyard, depart
ed for Murshtield last Tuesday. He ex|tects
to journey to Grays Harbor, where he will
secure employment.
Mrs. C. Korth and daughter were visitors
at Prosper last Friday. They were aocoui-
pauied by Mrs. Frost, a cousin, and Anna
Miller, a niece of Mrs. Kortb's, who are up
from !Sau Francisco on a short visit.
Messrs Chase aud J. Quick, of Coquille
City, political campaigners, were amoug our
Prosper visitors last week.
Chas. Ashton, the up-river boom owner,
was down with bis gasoliue boat, collecting
his boom sticks last Friday. He informed
us that 8tXX) logs had been taken out of the
North Fork, 61)00 of which he will handle,
1200 had beeu transferred fri-iu the Routh
Fork, to his boom. This is an uiiuhuh I run
fur this time of the year.

Adams and F. Fish, logging camp employes,
from Myrtle Point, were here transacting
business with Prosper Mill Co., last Friday.
