But to mar the novelty of the occasion when planning their return the bar became rough and hopelessly debarred lheir entrance to the river, com pelling them to seek a harbor of refuge. Running up the coast toward Big Creek, a sheltered cove near Coos Bay. they thought of gaining an entrance but the water there was too shallow and the Coos Bay bar too rough to attempt a crossing, with night ap proaching, three members of the crew sick, and a shortage of gasoline, they began to realize the seriousness of the doubtful ecu dition and concluded as an only prevention from perhaps total destruction, was to make a landing on the beach, so they headed for a smooth beach near the Coon Bay entrance, and with a good big wave thev were lauded high and dry. The engine lina been re moved from the boat and was brought over the mad. the hull still lies on the beach and will be towed over later oil. This has been quite an experience for the boys and presume they will hereafter be i more contented with “smaller fish," caught in smoot h water. A. Anderson, a ship carpenter, was a passenger to Marshfield Monday The Prosper Mill Co. has contracted for 15 million ft. of logs to come out on fresb water and 3 million on tide water. This is predicted to be a busy logging season. H u i £ K* u ,r i.'
