Hnaton, of Hillsboro, who is one of the candidates for tbs Congressional nomination on the Rs publican ticket, is visiting Bandon io tbs interest of bis candidacy, and called npoo the R bcobdib office. Mr. Huston is a native of Indiana, but has lived in Oregon for about 23 years. His father was a soldier in the 18th Indiana Volunteers, and was one of those who gave up bie life that the country might be preserved. He left a widow with three email chil dren of which Mr. Huston was the oldest, being five years old. He was raised on a farm and was compelled to do all kinds of labor in order to assist in making a living. When on ly seven yean old be went to mill on horseback, and the young mao who ran the mil) was Hon. W. T. Dorbin, late Governor of the State of Indiana. He earned the money to pay for bis education by working for wages and teaching. He was admitted to tbs bar and came to Oregon in 1883. He was employed at various kinds of labor nntii Jan. 1884, when he began the practice of law in Hillsboro. For the last 15 yean bo bas been recog nised as one of the leading lawyers of the state. He has never held but one political office, to wit: State Senator. He is now serving his 4th consecutive term as school director at Hillsboro. He was married in 1884 and baa three children, a daughter 20 yean old. and two sons, 18 and 16 respectively. The daughter is attending the State Uni versity at Eugene, and the eons Paci fic University at Forest Grove. He comes out squarely in bis platform in favor to the maximum rate bill advo cated by President Roosevelt, and claims that his opponents are not willing to do so but dodge the ques tion. He is a mao of good appear ance and one who will make friends wherever be goes, and would, we think make a capable representative in Congress. We predict that his visit to Bandon will be appreciated bv the people of this town and vicin ity. S —ooo---- The steel range contest will end Wednesday nigbt. Your laat chance to get in yonr votes.
