THURSDAY, JAN. 11, 190ti. Prosper. Tbe Aberdeen Mill was closed Mon day. Tbe furnace caved iu, which 1 canned a days' delay to do tbe neces sary repairs. J. Donaldson, clerk in tbe Prosper store, went to Coquille Tuesday og bUMuesa. G. Meyer will fill tbe posi tion during Mr. D.’s absence. Mr. Heuckendorff and John Peter son were in Bandon Monday. The sebr Ruby was towed to Ban don, Tuesday, witb a cargo of lumber for San Franciaao. The C. T. Hill is now loading and will be ready for sea by the last of the week, Mrs. J. S. Thompson went up the river Monday returning the same day. Dale Barrows drove up from Ban don Saturday afternoon. Tom Tennison and wife and tbe latter’a parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sander son, have taken up tbeir residence at tbia place. Tbe former is now em ployed in tbe mill. Eva Goodman went to Bandon Sat nrday. Mrs. C. Korth was up viBitiDg last Wednesday. Mrs. J. Kicking made Bandon a call last Saturday. Sbe was accom panied boras by Miss Zina Davison, who remained a few days visiting the former. Wm. Mehl, of Coquille, was down on business last week. Ed Smith, an up-river farmer, bas been here for several days repairing bis residence. N. A. Petersop went to Bandon last Thursday to purchase material for some carpenter work he intends hav ing done. A. J. Hartman was np from Bandon one day last week to got a lumber or der filled. Lee Cox was transacting businoss hero last Thursday. Mr. Wallace was up from Bandon last week to see about renting a house and barn at Randolph. He will en gage io hauling the lumber for LaDg- worthy nnd Osbopnp. this winter, and is looking for buildings which will be accessible to his work. Oscar Hendrickson returned last Friday from a protracted visit to As toria und Portland. We did not ex pect to see him return alone. Jack Neros, who sailed on the sebr Oregon several weeks ngo, returned Inst Saturday evening, having come on last Breakwater. He will remain here for an indefinite time. R. W. Bnl]ard, one of the prosper ous lower river merchants, gave Co quille a visit Sunday. A. Pershbaker and 8. W. Faby took a trip np tho river Sunday. On account of delay with tho arti cles of agreement, etc., for the build ¡ng of tbe new vessel here, not ae many men camo from Coos Bay, last week, ae were expected; however, there are now 5 or 6 men employed in enlarging the drafting room and do ing other pjeparatory work. An or der for lumber for the new boat bas been given tbe Prosper Mill Co., and the first timber was sawed last Mon day, so the prospects look favorable for an early etart on tbe boat Cbas Fox and wife were np to Co quille a few days last woek, visiting relatives and friends. Misses Eva and Mary Hodges were Bandon visitors last week. John Nielson returned from Co quille last Wednesday, having attend ed the Socialist meeting at that place. Mrs. J. Conrad will have a room, an annex to her residence, finished and fitted up for a stock of confectionery, fruit, cigars, etc., which she expects on tbe incoming steamer. Tom Nielson left last Saturday on his return to Portland where bo bas spent tbe last eight months learning a trade. Tbe boom at this place is being filled with logs. C. Ashton bas been rafting for the last weok. bringing the Jogs from his boom above Parkers- burg. Omy Goetz gave Prosper a call last Saturday. Glen Cox is able to be aronnd again, having bad his foot caught in |ho wheel of a wagon and badly jjrnised.
