It says that when Coos Bay gets a bans goiitineiital railroad and a forty foot cbuuuel they will have a great market there like San Francisco and all tbe Bandon trade will go to Coos Bay in stead of San Francisco. The Har bor's solution of tbe problem is to build it canal through the isthmus, then bring tbe products of thia sec tion to 0>os Bay on acows over the ppid flats and sloughs mid we would have feasible navigation all the year through Coos Bay. Tbe people of the Coquille valley will be amusod at thia grout effort of the Harbor to suggest a method of transportation for this section, “It is Bandon not Coos Bay that most needs tbe Isthmus canal,” says tbe Harbor. We would like to ask tbe Harbor man what put such a crazy notion in fo his head. Does the Harbor know that there was more lumber shipped from this place dnriug the first six months of this year than was shipped from Coos Bay? Does it know that tbe most of (.lie lumber shipped from the Bay pomes from the Coquille? Does it know that the principal coal deposits pf tbe county are in this valley and when developed will be shipped from ibis river? If the Harbor doesn't know these things it ought to investigate and keep “mum.'’ Tbe people of this sec lion are a liberal and whole souled bunch, howevef. and let the Bayites bave all tbo credit they cau get. W e will be glad to see tbe Bay get her forty feel, we will be glad to see her build a town like Portland. We realize that while she is getting h mouthful we will get a bite, but we want it distinctly understood that she must quit knocking the balance of tbe ponnty or flip balance of the county will retaliate aud tins is no time for sectional tights. Tbe people of tbe ponnty should be united and working (or the good of tbe county as a whole. An industry that comps to tbe county, po matter where it is located, is a good thing for ns all and the more the merrier. The Coquille valley is the garden spot of Coos county and as yet only a small percent is under actual cultivation. There is room here for hundreds of farmers who are willing to work one half as bard for success as they do in the east, where it takes a good proportion of what they earn in tbe summer to live through tbe cold winters.
