miles distant. Mt. Hood appear- o

Bqund of t'nited States troops, in com
mand of a lieutenant, has established
a signal station near the summit of tho
jrnnd old peak, and tho exposition is
in daily communication with tho
mountain. Several parties of adven
turous people will climb to tho sum
mit of Mt. Hoed daring tho summer,
as a sort of side trip ftom Portland,
tho Exposition city.
