Frosty says that business is increas ing, aud that ho sent off an extra stage, this morning, having men ail tbe way from British Columbia to South America, and two dead soldiers in it. It is no uncommon thing for men to start out with live soldiers and "kill” them on tbe way, but to even biqt that a man would start off in that wreckloss manner, from a “wet” town, would be sufficient canse for a chal lenge as to irutb aud veracity, and if tbe offence bad been committed in Kentucky, a fiist-class funeral would most likely have followed —Beware, Frosty, of tbe manner in which you state it. Injunction lilranted, Now comes the news that Judge J. W. Hamilton has granted an injunc tion restraining tbe County Court of Coos County from issuing an order to olose the saloons in compliance with the Local Option law as voted upon ut the November election. That the election notices were not posted iu time to give^the required notice; that tbe petition for such vote to be taken did not have Ibe requisite amouqt of signers required; that there was illegal voting, and that a large number of voters had no notice of the electiou are alleged reasons upon which stay of proceedings are made. The above proceeding indicates that the County Court will be re strained from taking any action until tbe May term of Circuit Court, at which tbe matter will come up aud most likoly be adjusted. We are all well doers or evil doers Every man is a missionary, now and forever, for good or for evil, whether be intends it or not. He may be a blot, radiating his daik influence out ward to tbe very circumference of society, or he msy be a blessing spreading benedictions over thelength and breadth of the world; but ablauk be cannot be. The seed sown in life springs up in harvests of blessings or harvests of sorrow. Whether onr in fluence be great or small, whether it bo for good or evil, it lasts, it lives somewhere, within some limit, and is operative wherever it is. The gravo buries the dead dust, but tbe cbarac ter walks tbe world, and distribi.t‘8 itself as a benediction er a curse among lb<> families of mankind. The sun sets beyond tbo distant hills, but the ray of light be haves behind birn guides tlie pilgrim to his distant home. The friend with whom we took sweet counsel is removed vis- iby from tbe outward eye; but tbe lessons that be taught, the grand sen timents that be uttered, the holy deeds of generosity by which be whs characterized, tbe moral lineaments and likeness of tbe man still survive and appear in the silence of eventide, and on the tablets of memory, and in the light of morn nnd noon and <iewy ev«; and, being dead he yet speaks eloquently, and io the midst of us. It is only the pure fountain that blings forth pure water. The good tree only produce tbe good fruit. If the center from which all proceeds i- pure and holy, tbe radi of influence from it will be pure and holy also. Go forth, then, into tbe spheres that you occupy, the employments, the trades, the profession« of social life; go forth into the high | hires or into the lovely p aces of tiie laud; mix witli the soaring cataracts of social convulsions, or mingle among the ed dies of streamle s of quiet and do mestH- life; whatever sphere you till, carry into it a holy heart, and you will radiate around yon life and pow r. aud leave behind yuu holy and boneti- cent influence. The phenomena) victory of W. L. Douglas in Massachusetts, make* him a figure of national interest, ami bis reasons for the result are interesting. He sums them up very briefly thus: “Publicity, and an issue.” The issue that he forced upon the people of Massach setts was reciproc ity—"a single, live, straight issue,” he says, “which reached straight iuto tbe everyday affaire of tneu aud wom en. I made the fight solely on tbe proposition that we should have re ciprocity, aud that all trusts which sell their products abioad cheaper than we can buy them here should not be permitted to enjoy protection. I gave them practical examplesof the working of the tariff. * * This was tbo issue that the people were palpi fating over. We made people believe that tbe tariff and the trust question is tbe same, that it is idle to talk of solving the trust question so long a* we are sheltering these gi mt paupers under onr protection sys’em I told our people that, they p it .<6 in the protection pool for every dollar they took out; that onr 650,000 homes con tributed $65,1 MX) (k)<) a year to the trusts; th it tiie steel trust ilonereap* 5Si',01)0,1100 a year out of protecli m, ■ nd pockets it, selling iibioad cheaper than we can buy from it.
