BANDON RECORDER. ijl P olly L arkin . prattle *ud a mother’s foolish pride in granting her child's whim when she wauled to show some diamonds aud Jewelry to her little playmate who had shown her a pretty ring. “My mama has Iota of beautiful diamonds aud jew elry and lots of mousy,’’ boasted the child, aud to prove that she was telling the truth, took her into the house and asked her mother to show them to her little f’ieud. Tbe glittering mass of gems waa emptied ou tbe table to daz zle the child’s eyes, and home she sped to carry tbe uews of the wealth of beau tiful things she had seen iu her neigh bor’s bouse that had cost a small for tune. There was money beside in tbe bouse to charm tbe eyes as well as the diamouds, and this fact tbe little neigh bor bad confided to the childish vis itor as well. Money and diamonds! Such a tempting bait tonieu and wom en totally devoid of all principle. Then aud there the villainous plot was ar ranged to roll the people across the way ot their treasures. It was a cleverly contrived scheme and worked out witb a brutality that would have been a credit to lawless people of I he dark agee. That it fell short of murder was only due to tbe victim’s ability to give tbe warning. The result of this little childish pride in her mother’s gems and tbe mistake of tbe parent in com plying with the whim, is a woman desperately and cruelly beaten and left a physical wreck, three men aud a woman iu jail, with a chance of long imprisonments and possibly a life line seutenoe for one or more of the prisoners.
