curiosity in beu fruit displayed, some
threo weeks ago, in tbe shape of two
eggs. One was a very large one, aud
tbe other was nearly tbe usual size.
Tbe large one bad been broken open
and tbe smaller one bad been taken
from it. Both were well shaped and
had bard shells, and tbe only criti
cism to make is that the ben was lav
ish in the use of lime, as the shell of
the larger egg was ample for tbe
whole product, and she might bave
saved tbe substance of the innef shell
for future use.

They, or threats thereof, seem to be
more numerous than ever. Bishop
spanlding said recently that tbe time
was near at hand when there would
be no more strikes. This seems to
be too optimistic a view. Yet in an
increasing number of cases threat
ened strikes are avoided by tbe yield
ing of some points on both sides.
This has been especially true during
tbe past few months with respect to
ditte^epcee between railroads or other
great corporations and their employes.
In a number of instances these com
panies have yielded a large propor-
|iop of the employes’ demands, while
tbe workingmen have in several cases
sqmewbat modified those demands,
tbe business meanwhile going on
without interruption or much friction.
