A Candy Trust and a MolasseB Trust are two of the late acquisitions to the Trust family. It is doubtful however whether the delicious flavor and exquisite taste of the delicacies bandied by these two will be of suffi cient moment to sooth the lovers of sweetmeats for the added cost. J. Pierpont Morgan and other of the tpilljouaires want the tariff re moved from paintings and works of art. Morgan is quite consistent with self interest in bis desires at least, and it can hardly lie said of bifn that bis purpose is in the interest of the common people. Jt is Morgan’s in terest be is looking after. He is a purchaser of fine works of art and he wishes to shirk bis part in providing revenue for the government. Millionaires demand what they want and they usually work to that end. The Salt Trust demanded higher profit, on salt, and the organization 'made ready to enforce its demand; Rockfeller got ready and when be wants a bigtier price for oil be gets it; The Steel Trust is prepared to en force its demands, and in general trusts are able to maketbeir demands and get them. Labor might just as easly enforce its demand^ if it will make itself ready and go to work sys tematically and look after its own interests, but it must do it through the ballot. First labor must be ready to unite its influence and then make its demands through legislators and legislative bodies. Labor can have wbat it should have when its demands are just and made through united effort. J'rqstB flourish because of the disorganised condition of those upon whom they prey. S an F rancisco , Sept. 10.—Loot from the Catholic Church of the Philippines has been discovered by the customs officials in the baggage pf the Eighth Infantry on the trans port Buford and consigned to the Museum Academy at West Point. The images represent the beads of pbrist and the Virgin. The former is made of ebony and is famous as the "Black Christ.’’ Accompanying the images are gold trimmed velvet robes and a mass of gilded tin, in cluding an elaborate balo. They were captnred in Laguioa Province, and it is claimed ware used by saorilegous insurgents to qbtain from the super stitious natives over $200,000 in mon ey. The operators invited the natives Io the shrine of the “Black Messiah,’’ where a ventriloquist gave a message saying that if the money was con tributed freely he would drive the whites out of the islands.
