There has been some anxiety ex hibited oxer the surplus that has been piling up in the United States’ treasury, and its reduction has be come a matter of interest, that is, Secretary Huge is buying up bonds at a premium, which will help hold the surplus in abeyance. By the way, Senator Hanna is looking long ingly toward that surplus and if ho can once launch bis Ship-Subsidy bill the surplus will need no other anchor to bold it down ABOUND THE COUNTY. A defective flue in Miss May’s room was the cause of the blaze, and before the flames were ex tinguished by Mr. Boyrie aud Clar ence, the coutents of the room was destroyed. From the Coast Mail. F. M. Freidberg is now sole owner of the Marshfield electric light works, having purchased the plant and fran chise of the General Electric Com pany. Mr. Freidberg has been io charge of the enterprise here for sev eral years, and is thoroughly famil iar with the situation. On Saturday last it was announced here that the vein of cool for which W. A. Maxwell has been prospecting on the Watsou place at Coos City, had at last been reached with the drill. It is stated that the vein was was struck 7G0 feet below the surface, the prospecting shaft being down 610 feet and the drill having penetrated 150 feet further. Mr. Maxwell’s sound judgment, which has been vocif erously called in question by some of our local coal experts, is thus vindi cated, and his self reliance rewarded. The vein of coal is said to be a large one with good roof and floor and pitching at an angle of about 10 de grees. The plans for the opening of the mine are said to include a double hoisting shaft, to be put down some 700 feet south of the prospect shaft, the latter being put down to the vein and used in the development work, and later for ventilation. WERMAW, OF BALTIMORE, SAYS: B altimore , Md., March 30, 1901. Gentlemen .’—Being entirely cured of deafness, thanks to your treatment I will now give yott B full history of my case, to be used at your discretion. About five years ago my right ear began to sing, and this kept on getting worse, until I lost my hearing in this ear entirely. I underwent a treatment for catnrrh. for three months without any success, consulted • num ber of physicians, among others, the most eminent ear specialist of this city, who told me that only an operation could help me, and even that only temporarily, that the head noises would then cease, but the hearing in the affected ear would l»e lost forever. I then saw your advertisement accidentally in a New York paper, and ordered your treat ment. After I had used it only a few days according to your directions, the noises ceased, and to-day, after five weeks, my hearing in the diseased ear has been entirely restored. I thank yow heartily and beg to remain Very truly yours. - J * F. A. WERMAN, 730 S. Broadway, Baltimore, M<L Our treatment does not interfere with your usual occupation.
