The focus of this year’s retreat was learning language through games. There were breakout sessions giving attendees an opportunity to decorate sticks for stick game, create their own Chinuk Wawa board game and a card games session. They also practiced stick ball and had a competition to see who could throw the balls the furthest with their stick and played a round of stick game to end the day. About 15 families, a total of about 60 people, participated in the retreat. 7 Tribal Council approved applying for an Indian Community Develop- ment Block Grant that would help fund completion of phase three construction at Chachalu Tribal Museum & Cultural Center at its Wednesday, June 26, meeting. The $500,000 grant would be used by the Tribe’s Cultural Re- sources Department for necessary upgrades, equipment, plumbing, electrical, materials and landscap- ing to complete the construction project. “This opportunity will allow us to provide for Chachalu phase three and to meet some goals and initiatives in the community devel- opment project,” Tribal Grants Co- ordinator Dana Morfi n said during a Tuesday, June 25, Legislative Action Committee meeting. Tribal Council member Jon A. George thanked Chachalu Manager Travis Stewart for showing council members the phase three drawings. “It’s going to enhance Chachalu and I look forward to seeing that come to life and how all that out there, what a difference that will make in the look of the museum,” he said. In other action, Tribal Council: • Approved appointing Steve Bobb Jr. to the Ceremonial Hunting Board with a term ending on March 31, 2026; • Approved an application to the SAMHSA State Opioid Response/ Tribal Opioid Response Technical Assistance grant for $1.25 million; • Approved an application to the Bureau of Justice Assistance Comprehensive Opioid, Stim- ulant and Substance Use Site- Based Program grant for $1 million; • Approved a resolution that au- thorizes staff to submit a plan to the Secretary of the Interior for the consolidation of funds from General Assistance, Native Em- ployment Works, Job Placement and Training, American Indian Vocational Rehabilitation and Job Training Programs into a single, coordinated, 5-year plan to provide employment and training services; • And approved 10 non-infant and 2 non-infant emergency enroll- ments into the Tribe because they meet the enrollment re- quirements outlined in the Tribal Constitution and Enrollment Ordinance.
