Gordon William “Tim” Linton Delores Jean Knight Nov. 3, 1933 – July 27, 2022 Born in Willamina, Ore., to George (Dewey) and Geraldine (Toots Mer- cier), Tribal Elder Gordon William Linton grew up in Grand Ronde sur- rounded by his sister, Diane, and brother, Tommy. His best friends were his many cousins, making lifelong relationships. In the late 1950s, Tim moved his growing family to Brookings, Ore., looking for work. Always a hard worker, Tim worked in the local plywood mill, as a logger and a truck driver. As a truck driver, Tim found his call- ing, excelling as a truck boss. During this time, he received many awards for safe driving and taught others his skills. He enjoyed hunting and camping with his boys, family and friends. Upon his retirement, he and his wife, Caroline, relocated to McMinnville, Ore. These were the happiest years for them, socializing with family and friends. Tim was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline, and sons, Mike and Gregg. He is survived by his brother, Tom; son, Les; and daughter, Chris- tine; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Placement of his ashes occurred on Friday, Aug. 12, at the Grand Ronde Cemetery for family. A celebration of life was held at Tom Linton’s Grand Ronde home on Saturday, Aug. 13. Oct. 31, 1931 – July 25, 2022 Delores Jean Haller Knight was born on Oct. 31, 1931, in Corvallis, Ore., the daughter of Wilbur Daniel and Adeline E. Menard Haller. She went to Heaven on July 25, 2022, in Grand Ronde, Ore. She was Kalapuya and a Grand Ronde Tribal Elder from the Haller-Menard family de- scended from Chief Joseph Sangretta. “Mama was my greatest teacher; a teacher of compassion, love and fearlessness. If love is sweet as a flower, then my mother is that sweet flower of love.” — Stevie Wonder A true matriarch of a large and loving family, Delores (Odie) was im- mensely proud of her immediate family and of her extended family. If love does indeed build a bridge, she built one long enough to crisscross the world. She will be greatly missed. She was raised in a very large family and had many brothers and sisters. She loved spending time gathered around the kitchen table playing cards and storytelling. You could count on seeing her beautiful smile and hear her laughing or speaking firmly to the slot machines on Monday nights. Odie worked at canneries, Weyerhauser and in agriculture throughout her life, teaching her children that great things come from hard work. She took pride and comfort in keeping an immaculately clean household. Odie was preceded in death by her husband, Claude W. Knight; daughter, Loretta A. Sisemore; and her granddaughter, Raeann Knight. She is survived and greatly missed by her daughters, Brenda S. Gray of Grand Ronde, Ore., and Karen M. Plunges of Chewelah, Wash.; sons, William L. Knight of Cusick, Wash., Dennis C. Knight of Chewelah and Jesse R. Knight of Grand Ronde; and grandchildren, James W. Knight, Tricia L. Gray, Charles D. Gray Jr., Tangeline Dudt, Richard Hensley, Derrick Cooper, Dennis C. Knight Jr., Rebecca Alavarez, Rachael Knight, Faith Knight and Joseph Knight; 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Graveside services were held Saturday, July 30, at the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Cemetery, where she was laid to rest next to her husband. A meal at the Lighthouse Church immediately followed the services. Open to Tribal and Community members. Join us! She was preceded in death by a brother, Adam T. Wangelin; and her grandparents, Thomas Wangelin Sr., Ben Rinehart, and Trudy and Carroll Grenia. She is survived by her mother, Cynthia L. (nee Rinehart) Wangelin; daughter, Aubrey Maldonado; son, Michael Maldonado; father, William C. Grenia; fiancé, Barry Cannady; brothers, Thomas C. Wange- lin III and Robert Gibbs; grandparents, Virginia and Daryl Hobbs and Patricia A. Wangelin; stepfather, Thomas C. Wangelin Jr.; and numerous uncles and aunts. A visitation was held Thursday, Aug. 4, at George Renner & Sons Fu- neral Home in Belleville, Ill., and a memorial service was held later that same day with Chaplain Jason Pierce officiating. Other passings Ernest Leroy Smith March 28, 1957 – July 27, 2022 Tribal Elder Ernest L. Smith walked on Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at the age of 65 in a Boise, Idaho, area hospital. Bowman Funeral Parlor in Garden City, Idaho, is assisting the family. He is survived by his brother, Bernard Scott Smith, and older sister, Angie M. Smith. At his request, there will not be any formal services. Save the Date 2022 Grand Ronde E d u c a ti o n S u m m i t Wednesday August 24th 9:00am-4:30pm Location: Spirit Mountain Casino Dakota Hoffman March 19, 1995 – July 31, 2022 Tribal Adult Foster Care employee Dakota Hoffman walked on July 31, 2022, at the age of 27 at her home in Dallas, Ore. Dakota was a loving caregiver who cared deeply for her residents and her co-workers. She was very outgoing and loved being outdoors. She loved being with family and riding her ATV on the sand. She also en- joyed spending time with her dogs, horses and, most of all, her boyfriend Michael. She was a very positive, kind and all-around great person. She will be greatly missed. A celebration of life was held Sunday, Aug. 14, at North Albany Park in Albany, Ore. Restlawn Memory Gardens & Funeral Home of Salem, Ore., assisted the family.
