She was 88 years old and a member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. At the time of her passing, she was comforted by Janis and Melissa while being cared for at the Life Care Center of Puyallup, Wash. She was born to Avery and Ethel (nee Brown) Jones in Spanaway, Wash., on April 10, 1931. She was one of nine children. She moved to Walla Walla, Wash., where she met Irvin Myrick, who had come home from World War II and whom she married. They had stepdaughter Geraldine (Irvin’s from a previous marriage), and two daughters, Janis (Jeff Duddles) and Tracie (Timothy Meyer). She and Irvin celebrated 37 years of marriage before he passed. She was very proud of her Tribal heritage. She was the great-grand- daughter of Chief Alquema of the Santiam Band of Kalapuya and Mar- guerite of the Molalla. Her grandparents William and Sara (nee Hudson, known as Sally) Jones, her namesake, were longtime residents of the Grand Ronde Reservation prior to the Termination era. Sally and her brother Tom were the first to bring the family back to the Tribal homelands. She was an avid fisherwoman who loved camping, and she taught her children the beauty and love of nature and living off the land. Her favorite place to go was the Tucannon River in the Blue Mountains of Walla Walla. She and Irvin were antique enthusiasts who enjoyed buying and selling in flea markets around the Pacific Northwest. After Irvin was struck with lung cancer, they traveled with her sister Nancy and her husband Rex Bell throughout the western states. Later, she lived with Tom Weiss near the Cowlitz River in Randall, Wash., and spent her time walking along the river and enjoying the salmon runs. Dwanee Modrell April 2, 1942 – June 14, 2019 On Friday, June 14, Dwanee Modrell passed peacefuly from this world. Dwanee was one of six children born to Doug and Charlotte Parazoo in Sutherlin, Ore., where she lived for the first part of her life. In 1961, Dwanee married her high school sweetheart, Larry Modrell, and together they had three children, Shawni, David (Cougar) and Candace, all of whom remain close. In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Dwanee was very active in her community, most notably in the Mrs. Oregon Pageant with her dear friends Carol Cross and Dee Dee Brandt. Later in life, she and her husband were involved in the foster care program. She also was a supervisor for Agri- pac in Eugene, Ore., for many years before retirement. She was a proud member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde. Of all Dwanee’s passions, nothing exceeded her love for her family. She was a mother figure to many, the matriarch of her large extended family and was always available to listen, offer encouragement and celebrate their success. While she has left a hole in all of our lives in this world, we are comforted knowing she has been reunited with her parents and sister and is in the loving embrace of her Creator. Dwanee is survived by her husband, Larry Modrell; daughters, Shawni Modrell-Astrof and Candace Modrell-Alva; son, David C. Modrell; siblings, Diana Norton, Robert “Butch” Parazoo, Carla Inda and Tammy Stillman; and her beloved grandchildren and extended family. Lindsey Lyle Llaneza April 13, 1954 – July 15, 2019 Grand Ronde Tribal Elder Lindsey Lyle Lla- neza was born in Oregon and grew up in the Richmond area of southeast Portland with his parents, Eddy and Flora. He loved fishing, camping and just being out- doors with family and friends, but most of all he loved spending time with his children. He is survived by his daughter, Breonna; son, Gabe; granddaughter, Lynnea; brother, Lowell; and two sisters, Deannie and Beejee; as well as lifelong best friend and favorite fishing buddy Mike, who he met as a young boy in his neighborhood. Lindsey was truly an amazing father, brother and friend. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service was held Saturday, July 27, at Holman’s Funeral Home, 2610 S.W. Hawthorne Blvd., Portland.
