8 S moke S ignals APRIL 15, 2018 GRAND RONDE GAMING COMMISSION POSITION MEMBER BENEFIT FUND ORDINANCE OPEN FOR COMMENT The Grand Ronde Gaming Commission is seeking applications to fill one commission position starting June 2018 and expiring June 2021. The Tribal Gaming Ordinance requires this position to be filled by a Tribal member. The Grand Ronde Gaming Commission reg- ulates all gaming-related activities associated with Spirit Mountain Casino. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age. Commissioners may not hold elective or managerial Tribal positions, and may not be employed in or own any interest in or gamble in a gaming operation authorized by the Tribal Gaming Ordinance. Commissioners are independent contractors and expend approximately 30-40 hours per month to fulfill their responsibilities. The Gaming Commission generally meets on the second and third Fridays of each month. Appointment is contingent upon successful completion of a background investigation. The proposed amendments were given a First Reading at the April 4, 2018, Tribal Council meeting. The proposed amendments change Section (e)(9) to provide that dis- tributions refused or not claimed by a designated beneficiary within 18 months of the member’s death will be returned to the Fund and become part of the following year’s appropriation and distribution. The proposed amendments also include minor technical (i.e., for- matting, typographical, housekeeping) modifications. Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Social Security Disability Insurance Benefit Advocate Request for Proposal The Request for Proposals (RFP) is being conducted by the Social Service Department for the purpose of obtaining a contractor who has 5-plus years experience in SSI/SSD advocacy/benefit determination and the qualifications to advocate for Tribal members who are seek- ing assistance in the application process. Qualified applicants shall possess the ability to: • Provide general information to Tribal members and make referrals regarding SSI/SSD. • Screen Tribal members who claim their disability does not allow them to work. • Refer members to appropriate physical and/or mental health eval- uations. • Determine the severity of the physical/mental health condition from reports received. Make recommendations and assist Tribal members to develop an action plan. • Assist Tribal members in applying for SSI/SSD. • Assist Tribal members with completing paperwork to file for appeals for denial of SSI/SSD. • Refer Tribal members to Tribal Member Benefits to apply for Tribal SSI/SSD program. • Serve as a resource to employees when working with clients that may benefit from SSI/SSD. Preference will be given to members of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde and/or an Indian-owned business registered with the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde TERO office.
