Clothes Closet open Friday mornings The Clothes Closet is open from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the first and third Fri- days of the month and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. all other Fridays on the Tribal campus near the Elders Activity Center at the end of Blacktail Drive. The Clothes Closet accepts clothing, small appliances, small pieces of fur- niture, electronics and household goods that are clean and in good condition. It does not accept books, large TVs or large furniture, but there is a commu- nity board where people can post those items. Donations are accepted during regular business hours. The podcasts can be heard at www.spreak- er.com and then search for “Smoke Signals podcasts.” “I think that pod- casting will augment and complement the news coverage offered to the Grand Ronde Tribal membership by Smoke Signals,” said Editor Dean Rhodes, who hosts the podcast shows. “I can see us highlighting news that occurs between our current publication cycle, which is the first and 15th of each month, and also conducting more in-depth inter- views with Tribal employees and Tribal members to complement stories that appear in the Tribal newspaper.” So far, podcasts have delved into Tribal efforts to help lamprey re- covery, the quick transition from Tribal employee to Tribal Council member, the Willa- mette Valley Treaty of 1855 and Tribal Coun- cil member Kathleen George’s service on the state Environmen- tal Quality Commis- sion. Tribal Lands De- partment Manager Jan Looking Wolf Reibach, a multiple Native American Music Awards recipient, granted Smoke Signals blanket permission to use his Na- tive flute-oriented music in the podcast. “We will eventually ramp up to posting a weekly podcast,” Rhodes said. “As we start, I would suggest Tribal members keep checking out the Tribe’s Facebook page or visiting the Spreaker site for new shows.” For more information about the podcast, suggest show ideas or submit a podcast for use, contact Rhodes at 503-879-1463 or dean. rhodes@grandronde.org. Elders holding fundraisers The Elders Activity Center has a new pool table that was delivered on Monday, March 5, and now the Elders are holding three fundraisers to help replenish the Elders Fun Fund that paid for the new table. Elders Activity Assistant Daniel Ham said the old pool table, which the Elders Activity Center received from Youth Education in 2009, has been donated to the Men’s Transitional House. The three fundraisers included an Indian Taco Time held Monday, March 12. The second fundraiser will be a car wash, bake sale and hot dog stand scheduled from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, March 26, at the Elders Activity Center. Hot dogs will be $2, chips and soft drinks will be $1 each and a combo meal of hot dog, chips and drink will be $3. Car washes will be by donation. The third fundraiser will be a spaghetti feed and silent auction set for 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at the Elders Activity Center.
