Smoke Signals has started a new podcast on the hosting website Spreaker.com. The podcasts can be heard at www. spreaker.com and then searching for “Smoke Signals pod- casts.” “I think that pod- casting will augment and complement the news coverage offered to the Grand Ronde Tribal membership by Smoke Signals,” said Editor Dean Rhodes, who hosts the podcast shows. “I can see us highlighting news that occurs between our current publication cycle, which is the first and 15th of each month, and also conduct more in-depth interviews with Tribal employees and Tribal members to complement stories that appear in the Tribal newspa- per.” So far, podcasts have delved into Tribal efforts to help lamprey re- covery, the quick transition from Tribal employee to Tribal Council member, the Willamette Valley Treaty of 1855 and Tribal Council mem- ber Kathleen George’s service on the state Environmental Qual- ity Commission. Tribal Lands De- partment Manager Jan Looking Wolf Reibach, a multiple Native American Mu- sic Awards recipient, granted Smoke Sig- nals blanket permission to use his Native flute-oriented music in the podcast. Reibach’s new compact disc, “Flute Medicine,” is the topic of the fifth podcast that was posted on Wednesday, Jan. 24. “We will eventually ramp up to posting a weekly podcast,” Rhodes said. “As we start, I would suggest Tribal members keep checking out the Tribe’s Facebook page or visiting the Spreaker site for new shows.” For more information about the podcast, suggest show ideas or submit a podcast for use, contact Rhodes at 503-879-1463 or dean. rhodes@grandronde.org. Clothes Closet open Friday mornings The Clothes Closet is open from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. the first and third Fridays of the month and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. all other Fridays on the Tribal campus near the Elders Activity Center at the end of Blacktail Drive. The Clothes Closet accepts clothing, small appliances, small pieces of furniture, electronics and household goods that are clean and in good con- dition. It does not accept books, large TVs or large furniture, but there is a community board where people can post those items. Donations are accepted during regular business hours.
