The proposed amendments were given a First Reading at the January 24, 2018, Tribal Council meeting. The proposed amendments make significant revisions to the Or- dinance to update and clarify Ordinance provisions. The Ordinance was adopted in 1993, has not been amended and is very out-of-date. The proposed amendments may also include minor technical (i.e., formatting, typographical, housekeeping) modifications. NAME CHANGE AND BIRTH CERTIFICATION ORDINANCE OPEN FOR COMMENT The Tribal Council is considering amendments to the Name Change and Birth Certification Ordinance. The proposed amendments were given a First Reading at the January 24, 2018, Tribal Council meet- ing. The proposed amendments made several changes to the Ordi- nance including but not limited to removing all provisions related to Birth Certification, renaming the Ordinance to the Name Change Ordinance, and updating and clarifying name change provisions. The proposed amendments may also include minor technical (i.e., formatting, typographical, housekeeping) modifications. Tribal Council invites comment on the proposed amendments to the Name Change and Birth Certification Ordinance. Tribal Elder and Marine Corps veteran Steve Bobb Sr.’s design submission for the National Native American Veterans Memorial. Bobb’s Veterans Memorial design not selected Tribal Elder and Marine Corps veteran Steve Bobb Sr.’s design submis- sion for the National Native American Veterans Memorial to be built at the National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., was not selected as one of five finalists. Bobb said the design contest received entries from around the world with 120 designs completing the first stage requirements. Those entries were juried and five finalists were selected to move on to the second round. Bobb, who designed the West Valley Veterans Memorial on the Tribal campus, submitted a design that featured a Native warrior on horseback returning from the past to continue defending the nation taken from him. Charging through a waterfall over a black granite wall, the structure reflects the architecture of the museum, he said. “I am glad that I entered,” Bobb said. “These things can be challenging, but I like that.” The Native American Veterans Memorial is slated to open in 2020. TOBACCO ORDINANCE OPEN FOR COMMENT The Tribal Council is considering amendments to the Tobacco Ordinance. The proposed amendments were given a First Reading at the January 24, 2018, Tribal Council meeting. The proposed amendments establish that it is a violation to sell or distribute tobacco to anyone under the age of 21 on the Reservation. The proposed amendments may also include minor technical (i.e., formatting, typographical, housekeeping) modifications.
