Book Review: “Divergent” by Veronica Roth: Sixteen-year-old Beatrice Prior’s world is divided into factions: Candor, which are the honest; Dauntless, which are the brave; Amity, which are the peace- ful; Erudite, which are the intelligent; and Abnegation, which are the selfless. Beatrice and her family claim themselves as the latter. Growing up, Beatrice always noticed how her actions were different from those of her family. She did not care to put other people’s lives before her own. One day every year is when all the 16 year olds in Beatrice’s world must choose a faction to dedicate their lives to. Beatrice must decide to stay with her family or go where she believes she belongs. During the first couple of weeks in her new faction she must fight her way to the top. Creating an intimate relationship with one of the faction leaders, who is named Four, she starts to find out who she can trust and who she can’t. From almost giving up, she finds a reason to push through all the bullying and mistreatment, even from some of the leaders. Beatrice and Four can do things no one else can, but why? Read “Divergent” to find out. — By Kayla Grijalva Donations: Our thanks to Angela Fasana, Teisha Sawyer, Amber Yates, Linda Brandon, Rick Andersen, Veronica Gaston, Shannon Ham, Barbara Danforth, Leslie Riggs, Mary Ellen and Leroy Good, Catherine Bruckner and Chris Mercier for their contributions to the library collection. Bolton Jr., 47, died Sat- urday, Dec. 23, from injuries received the day be- fore when the pickup truck he was driving crashed and was partially submerged in Devils Lake. Bolton was transported by ambulance to Samar- itan North Lincoln Hospital and walked on while being transferred to a Portland trauma hospital. Lincoln City Police said that they responded at Edward T. Bolton Jr. approximately 1:40 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22, to a re- port of a rollover crash on East Devils Lake Road. They found a Ford Ranger truck upside down and partially submerged in the water on the north side of the road. Four officers entered the water to assist three witnesses who were attempting to extricate the two occupants of the vehicle. Bolton was unconscious upon being extricated and passenger Murae Van Ras, 24, of Lincoln City was transported to the Lincoln City hospital with minor injuries and possible hypothermia. “The apparent cause is speed too fast for conditions,” Lincoln City Police Lt. Jerry Palmer said. “Other factors are under investigation.” The Lincoln County Major Crash Team was activated to investigate the crash.
