Elder’s Fishing Trip set for Sept. 21 The second Elder’s Fishing Trip of the year will be held on Thursday, Sept. 21, with a journey to Hebo Lake. This free event is sponsored by the Natural Resource Department’s Parks and Recreation Program and hosted by the Tribal Fish and Wildlife Committee. It will be held rain or shine with transportation, fishing gear and a meal provided. The trip is limited to the first 25 Tribal Elders and spouses who sign up at the Elders Activity Center, 48940 Blacktail Drive, or by calling 503- 879-2233. Vans will leave the Elders Activity Center at 8 a.m. If you need to obtain a Tribal fishing license, contact Natural Resources at 503-879-2424. Tribe receives Homeland Security grant The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde received a $347,162 grant from the Federal Homeland Management Agency, which is part of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Planning and Grants Manager Kim Rogers said the funds will cover 40 percent of the Tribe’s Emergency Operations Coordinator position and 30 percent of the Emergency Management Assistant job for three years, as well as provide funds for exercises, trainings, minor equipment and supplies. Some of the minor equipment and supplies are for the Tribe’s mobile medical/diabetes van.
