Tribal Veteran
Representative Training
May 9-11, 2017
The VA Office of Tribal Government, in collaboration with the Oregon State
Department of Veterans’ Affairs, is sponsoring a Tribal Veteran Representative/Tribal
Veteran Service Officer Training kindly hosted by The Confederated Tribes of Grand
Ronde in Grand Ronde, Oregon. Training will be held May 9-11, 2017. This 10-
credit hour course will cover basic concepts, as well as advance the skills of
seasoned advocates in the field. The training is free of charge to those Tribal Veteran
Representatives within tribal communities who are helping Veterans and their family
members with VA benefits and services.
The Parks and Recreation Program of The Confederated Tribes of
Grand Ronde, in cooperation with Oregon Youth Conservation
Corps, is seeking three Natural Resources interns/youth crew
leads for its Summer Youth Crew program. This is a great oppor-
tunity to obtain supervisory experience and practice hands-on
natural resource management techniques.
F&W Intern/ Youth Crew Leader Position
Start Date: June 12, 2017
Duration: 16 weeks, 40 hours/week
End Date: Sept. 30, 2017
Pay: $11.50-$14.00/hr
Duties: Supervise and provide leadership to an eight-person summer youth work crew for up to
eight weeks and assist the Natural Resources Department for approximately six weeks. Projects may
include stream and riparian restoration/enhancement, trail maintenance and construction, native
vegetation plantings, habitat enhancement monitoring, wildlife monitoring and other natural re-
source and community projects.
Qualifications: Desire to work with youth and/or in natural resources. Must be able to work in
rugged outdoor terrain. Experience in the proper use of hand tools. Good communication skills.
Requirements: Work boots, valid Driver’s License, safe driving record. Must successfully complete
pre-employment background check, drug test and moderate physical pack test. Must be able to at-
tend 3-day, 3-night (June 20-23, 2017) teamwork and working with at-risk youth training in Bend,
OR.
Work Location: Natural Resources Office, Grand Ronde. Grand Ronde is located in the foothills
of the Coast Range approximately 30 miles northwest of Salem, 25 miles southwest of McMinnville,
or 50 miles north of Corvallis.
The training will be held at The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Education
Center. Lodging is available at the Spirit Mountain Casino for a discounted rate of
$69.00 per night (before taxes). A block of rooms has been reserved – please
mention “CTGR Veteran Service Officer Training” to receive the special rate. For

ASSISTANT
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Assist year-round State Park staff in the protection, maint
enance, operation and repair of state park lands, natural and
cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment and
systems. Park Ranger Assistants typically perform basic tasks in
a single area of park operations (e.g.: janitorial work, landscape
maintenance, interpretation or visitor services), although some
positions will require performing tasks in a variety of areas. Some
work may require the most elementary skills in building trades,
including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and landscape
maintenance.

Youth Crew Member

Pay: Minimum wage
Duties
Work as a member of an eight-person work crew. Projects include trail construction, habitat en-
hancement, invasive species removal, and other natural resource and community
enhancement projects.
Qualifications
Must be 15-18 years of age; have the ability or experience to safely, and properly use hand tools;
be able to work in rugged outdoor terrain. Interest in or experience in working in the outdoors
helpful.
Requirements
1) Furnish own work boots
2) Complete and pass pre-employment background check and drug test.
