S moke S ignals APRIL 1, 2017 Groups form Helping Hands, schedule April 12 meeting iskam mfkhmfk haws, The Clothes Closet, Empowerment Outreach Ministries, Lighthouse Church and A Cause For Paws have joined forces in an effort to support local families. The group, named Grand Ronde Helping Hands, seeks to bring together those who are supporting families in Grand Ronde to share services and resources, and create a resource guide. Helping Hands’ next meeting will be 9 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at iskam mfkhmfk haws, 9675 Grand Ronde Road. If you provide any type of services to families in the community, consider attending. The group is looking for meal site calendars, food box sites, clothes closets, showers and laundry services. There also will be a collection day at iskam mfkhmfk haws from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 15. Donations of Easter items, men’s clothing, school supplies and pet items are being sought, as well as tents, sleeping bags, pillows, warm blankets, rain gear and heavy jackets to restock the shelves. Helping Hands continues to seek a volunteer with graphic arts skills to create a logo that represents all of the organizations. The logo would be used on business cards, a banner and possibly a website, and the artist possibly would receive a small honorarium. There will be 30 spots available for K-2nd grade youth, and 30 spots available for 3rd-5th grade youth. This includes CTGR Tribal and CTGR direct-descendant youth, as well as youth from other federally-recognized tribes. Completed applications will be time/date stamped on a “first come, first served basis”, with CTGR Tribal members receiving preference in filling open spots (see explanation below). Dates: Time: Location: Monday May 1st through Friday May 5th 8 a.m.-12 p.m. & 1-5 p.m. (YED is closed from 12-1 p.m.) CTGR Youth Education Building Applications must be submitted to a YED staff member at the YED front desk. Once Sign Up Week finishes on May 5th, any remaining spots will be awarded to direct-descendant and other Native youth. Please Note that CTGR Tribal member youth will be offered program spots first. At the closing of business at 5 p.m. on Friday May 5 direct-descendant and other Native youth will either fill the remaining spots, or be placed on a wait list according to when their completed applications were received. Any Tribal Member youth signing up after the pro- gram enrollment is at capacity, will be placed at the top of the wait list according to when their completed applications were received. A Tribal Member applying after the Sign Up Week will move to the top of the waiting list according to when their completed applications were received, but will not displace any direct-descendant or other Native youth that turned in their completed applications during the Sign Up Week and were awarded a spot. Eligibility Criteria/Intake Policy: All students enrolled in the program must meet the eligibility guidelines listed below, as well as provide required documentation: Student must be enrolled in Kindergarten through Fifth grade during the 2016-17 school year Must be an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde; a member of another feder- ally recognized tribe; or a direct-descendant (ID Card or official documentation required) Student must reside in one of 6 counties (Polk, Marion, Multnomah, Tillamook, Washington, Yamhill).
