S MOKE S IGNALS DECEMBER 1, 2015 Turkey bowl(ing) Photo by Michelle Alaimo Mark Scheelar, Tribal Senior Telecommunications Technician, throws his way to second place in the men’s division during the 12th annual Turkey Bowling event held in front of the Governance Center on Thursday, Nov. 19. Thirty-one employees participated in the event that is organized annually by the Human Resources Department. Winners this year, for the women, were Amanda McMahon, a Tribal Health Information Technician, fi rst; Jodi Bergen, a Tribal Certifi ed Medical Assistant, second; and Tina Leno, a Tribal Medical secretary, third. For the men, in addition to Scheelar, Chad King, a Tribal groundskeeper, took fi rst and Greg Patton, Tribal Network Administrator, fi nished third. 13 Groups form Helping Hands The Clothes Closet, iskam mfkhmfk haws and A Cause For Paws have started an ad hoc group called Grand Ronde Helping Hands and is inviting community members to join the effort of supporting local families. “The goal is to bring those of us together who are supporting families in Grand Ronde to share the services and resources we provide and create a resource guide we can all use,” said Food Bank Coordinator Francene Ambrose. The next meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8, at The Clothes Closet at the end of Blacktail Drive near the Elders Activity Center. “If you provide any type of services to families in our community, please consider attending,” Ambrose said. “We are looking for meal site calendars, food box sites, clothes closets, showers and laundry service. We are asking churches, church groups, departments and support groups to share with us. We are also collecting items for homeless families in our area, items for camping, bed in a bag, reusable water jugs, silverware, plates, etc.” In addition, a Helping Hands Collection Day is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, seeking donations of new, unwrapped toys, warm coats, hats, gloves, socks and pet items. Those needing a helmet need to visit the department and sign a helmet application, as well as get fi tted.
