General Council meeting 11 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1 Tribal Community Center Letters Dear Smoke Signals: Family and friends, it is with a joyous heart and gratitude that I share this news! I am performing my last concert this December and am no longer touring. And, I just fi nished my fi nal commercial music recording, slated to be released next year. The Creator has blessed me with a fruitful music career that I will be eternally grateful for. After much prayer, thought and consulting with my record label and family, I have decided to retire from being a recording and performing artist. After 20 recordings, more than 500 concerts, music videos, movie soundtracks, collaborations, more than 50 national award recognitions including four Native Music Awards and dozens of successful music proj- ects with the Native American fl ute, it’s time to spend more time with my family/Tribe, teaching the fl ute and promoting One Heart. Of course it will be my honor to continue to play music and speak when called upon by my Tribal Council, Tribe, community and Oregon State University. That commitment will never change. In addition to select solo appearances, my role with the Native American fl ute will be more focused on promoting and sharing how amazing the instrument truly is. In working with other educators, we will be starting a regular fl ute circle for folks to come and play together. Also, I have a serious desire to personally explore other art forms and pursue painting and photography. My music CDs, instruction publications and signature fl utes will continue to be distributed globally by High Spirits. In collaboration with them and others, I’m writing another book about the fl ute to be published in the next few years. Hayu masi to Odell Borg and his incredible support that literally spans my entire music career. Appreciation to the countless folks who played a part in this musical journey. A special thank you to the Native American Music Awards, Keith Sommers Studios, High Spirits Music, Spirit Wind Records, Oregon State University and, of course, my amazing Tribe! We are performing a fi nal special concert to celebrate together; here is the information: • Jan Michael Looking Wolf in Concert at the Chehalem Cultural Center at 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 11, 2015. My band will be joining in, along with special guest performers and dancers. The concert will be fi lmed as part of a documentary. We hope that you can join us for a very special evening with a full production show. It is expected to sell out; please get your tickets as soon as possible. On behalf of my entire family, hayu masi (many thanks) to everyone for the love and support!
