After Tribal members participated in traditional Taiwanese dances, the Taiwanese group joined the Grand Ronde Canoe Family in dances, including the dance
to “The Blue Heron Song.”
Far East exchange
On Thursday, June 4, a group of Taiwanese aborigines vis-
ited Grand Ronde and participated in a cultural exchange
with the Grand Ronde Canoe Family in the Tribal gym. Kathy
Cole, Tribal Cultural Education and Outreach Program man-
ager, was contacted by the Taiwanese Chamber of Commerce
of Oregon and helped arrange the exchange. The Taiwanese
performed their traditional songs and dances and the Grand
Ronde Canoe Family did the same. Their visit also included a
tour of Chachalu Tribal Museum & Cultural Center, lunch at
the Elders Activity Center and a stop at the plankhouse.

After songs and dances were exchanged, the Taiwanese
visitors were gifted beaded necklaces and shook hands
with Tribal members, including Kimberly Roybal, right.
