Gone fishing
2010 – Tribal Lands Manager Jan Looking Wolf Reibach per-
formed “What the World Needs” during Tribal Government Day at
the State Capitol in Salem. The event also marked the 35th anni-
versary of the Oregon Legislative Commission on Indian Services.

2000 – The Grand Ronde Community Resource Center received a
$15,000 grant from the Native American Hunger Program to fund
a refrigerated storage trailer and a van to transport food.

1990 – Tribal Council authorized a $2,000 payment to join the
Yamhill County Timberland Owners Association, which was formed
by private landowners who make an annual contribution to Yamhill
County for a full-time deputy to exclusively patrol timber lands.
1985 – The annual Memorial Day Gathering was held at St. Mi-
chael’s Catholic Church on May 26 and a scheduled baked food sale

Tribal Elder Michael Wiggs shows off a lake trout he caught while on
this year’s first Elder’s Fishing Trip at Hebo Lake on Thursday, May 14.
Wiggs joined about 25 Tribal Elders and their spouses for the event. Fish
and Wildlife Committee member Tracy Howerton prepared a meal for
everyone and it included some of the trout caught that day.

Elders’ phone numbers wanted
The Tribal Elders Committee is compiling a volunteer phone list of Elders.
If you would like to submit your phone number and address to be available to
other Elders, send it to elders.committee@grandronde.org or leave a message

Thursday, May 14. Twice a year, Elders and their
spouses go fishing for a day. The fishing gear
and lunch are provided and a Tribal fishing license is required. Tribal
Elder and Fish and Wildlife Committee member Harold Lyon has made
the trip every year. “As a committee, we wanted to do something of
value for the Tribe,” said Lyon.
