The three cubs were eventually sent to the Austin, Texas, Zoo, which is a rescue facility. Now named Korben, Tilly and Ruby, the bears celebrated their first birthday at the zoo on Jan. 17, said Executive Director Patti Clark. “Hundreds of people showed up for the party and they bobbed for strawberries in their pool,” she said. “Being hand-raised together, they play with each other all the time and can be seen romping around their enclosure.” Clark said Korben weighs about 100 pounds now and the two girls weigh about 90 pounds each. The cubs had to be rescued after their mother was spooked by nearby logging activities and did not return, threatening the orphaned cubs with starvation.
