Tha Warriors took first place and Team Nike second place in the division. Warriors win High School Division during 3-on-3 basketball tourney The Warriors, a team consisting of Jamahl Rivers, 17, of Vancouver, Wash., Andrew Barry, 14, of Monmouth, Michael Lyons, 17, of Seaside, and Julian Lane, 15, of Grand Ronde, won the High School Division during the 2013 Native Youth Contest Powwow 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament held Aug. 16-17 at uyxat Powwow Grounds. Taking second place in the High School Division was Team Nike, which consisted of Brody Bruckner, 15, of Grand Ronde, Logan Bobb, 15, of Dallas, Brenon Bobb, 16, of Salem, and Dakota Rock, 15, of Willamina. In the Middle School Division, The Dragons, a team out of Dallas, took first place. Team members were Evan Courtney, Jaret Stewart, Cooper Butler and T.J. Dimick, all 13 years of age. Second place in the Middle School Division went to Lil' Agency Creek from Grand Ronde. Team members were Anthony Simmons, 13, Isaiah Holmes, 13, True Gibbons, 13, and Justin Gonzalez, 12. The three-point shooting contest was won by Chris Savoldi and Robert Two Two finished second. Tribal Elder Alton Butler and Brihtani Lassiter of McMinnville refereed the games. The tournament was put on by the Tribe's Recreation Department. "We had three more teams than last year," said Tribal Recreation Coor dinator Matt Mosley. "Eleven total teams and 44 youth. There were five teams in the Middle School Division and six in the High School Division. We had teams from Siletz and Yakama, as well as three teams from Grand Ronde." B 11 4 V4 J Kaleigha Simi Hello Everyone: My name is Kaleigha Simi. I am 7 years old and I will be attending the second grade at Crater Elementary School. I am very honored to be given another opportu nity to represent my Tribe, my family and my friends as Little Miss Grand Ronde for 2013-14. My mom is Shannon Simi and my dad is Josh Baker. My grandparents are Ja net Titus and Virginia and Lonnie Roof. My great-grandparents are Annabelle Pool and Marvin and Eleanor Kimsey. I have two brothers, Dominik Briant and Jonathan Baker, and I have one sister, Sasheene Baker. I would like to thank my mom for all of her hard work and support this last year, as well as my family and friends. As this year's queen, I plan to attend more powwows, more culture events and learn more about my Tribe so that I can teach others about my heritage and culture. I will do my best to represent the Tribe and be a good role model for other youth. I'm looking forward to another year representing my Tribe as Little Miss Grand Ronde. Hayu Masi Kaleigha Simi Hello, my name is Iyana Holmes and I am Junior Miss Grand Ronde 2013-14. I am 1 1 years old and in the sixth grade at Willamina Elementary School. My fam ily background is Umpqua, Rogue River, Kalapuya and Chinook. I am the daughter of Brianna Leno and Joshua Holmes. My grandparents are Lonnie and Tammy Leno of Grand Ronde and Buck and the late Nita Holmes of Keizer. My great-grandparents are Orville and Ramona Leno, Loren Hol mes and Donna Logan. I am very honored to be Junior Miss Grand Ronde and look forward to repre senting my Tribe, myself and my family to the best of my abili ties. I also want to be a positive role model to those younger than me! Hayu Masi!!! Iyana Holmes I am 15 years old. I live with my grand parents, Betty and Roger Bly. I was born in Wyoming and moved here to Grand Ronde when I was 4 years old. I will be a freshman this year at Wil lamina High School. I intend to play vol leyball and track this year. I am also a member of Canoe Family and I am very honored to be chosen as Grand Ronde Senior Queen and look forward to rep resenting my Tribe. I am from the Parazoo-Pichette family and descended from Chief Comeomly and Chief Caseno. My ambition is to go to college, possibly the Portland Art In stitute, to learn designing clothes and become rich and travel the world. The float carried the parade's grand marshals, Elders Gene Hudson, left, and Herman Hudson Jr., second from left in the background. The float won first place in the parade.
